JOB SUMMARY:
The Production Scheduler is responsible for creating, maintaining, and adjusting the daily and weekly production schedules for Bayside Machine’s machining and fabrication departments across two shop locations. This role uses Global Shop Solutions (GSS) and Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) tools to manage capacity, sequence jobs, anticipate bottlenecks, and support on-time delivery.
The Scheduler works closely with the Expeditor, Supervisors (Machining and Fabrication), Purchasing, and Operations Management to ensure all jobs flow efficiently through the shop while balancing material availability, machine capacity, and customer commitments.
This is a central coordination role that requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate fast-changing priorities.
- Create and maintain daily, weekly, and long-range production schedules in Global Shop Solutions.
- Use APS to analyze capacity, identify constraints, assess machine loads, and assign job priorities.
- Sequence jobs based on due dates, router steps, setup efficiency, material readiness, and supervisor input.
- Update schedules in real time as jobs complete, change, or move between machines or locations.
- Monitor WIP throughout all machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and secondary operations.
- Review job travelers, router times, and workcenter capacities to validate schedule accuracy.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure material availability aligns with schedule requirements.
- Review backlog, customer due dates, and shop load daily to adjust plans proactively.
- Communicate schedule updates to the Machining and Fabrication Supervisors daily.
- Participate in morning production meetings and provide job status updates.
- Maintain accurate lead times, setup times, and capacity settings in GSS.

- Review actual vs planned hours to continuously improve schedule- 2–5+ years of scheduling, production planning, or manufacturing coordination preferred.
- Experience using Global Shop Solutions (or similar ERP), APS, MRP/ERP tools.
- Strong understanding of job-shop environments, short runs, custom parts, and routing steps.
- Ability to read and interpret routers, work orders, blueprints, and BOMs.
- High proficiency in Excel and data analysis.
- Excellent communication skills; able to work cross-functionally with supervisors, purchasing, expediting, and leadership.
- Strong problem-solving ability and ability to manage fast-changing priorities.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Ability to move between office and shop floor multiple times per day.
- Frequent walking, standing, and communicating in noisy environments.
- Ability to inspect WIP on machines, fabrication equipment, welding areas, and assembly lines.
- Must be comfortable wearing PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes.
- Occasionally lift or move materials/parts up to 25 lbs (not a material-handling job, but situational).
- Primary work hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM depending on shop alignment.
- Must be available for early check-ins during heavy workflow or month-end.
- This position is based at Machine Shop but supports both Machine Shop and Fabrication Shop.
- $28.00 – $34.00 per hour for an experienced scheduler.
- Higher rates are reserved only for candidates with substantial machining or fabrication scheduling experience and demonstrated proficiency with APS.
