PRESS OPERATOR

METAL PRESS OPERATOR:

A metal press operator sets up and operates machinery to shape and form metal parts, a job that includes tasks like loading raw materials, monitoring machine operations, and performing quality control checks on finished products. They must be able to read blueprints and specifications, make machine adjustments, and maintain a safe and organized work area.

Key responsibilities

- Machine operation: Set up, operate, and adjust automatic or semi-automatic presses to shape, bend, or form metal parts. This may involve using computer numerical control (CNC) machines.

- Material handling: Load raw or semi-finished materials into the press and unload finished products.

- Quality control: Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and conform to specifications. Identify any defects and make necessary adjustments.

- Machine maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, lubricate machinery, and change dies as needed.

- Troubleshooting: Monitor the machines for proper functioning, detect potential mechanical issues, and troubleshoot problems that arise during operation.

- Blueprint interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to understand how to set up and operate the machines correctly.

- Safety and organization: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Required skills and qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Experience operating heavy machinery, preferably in a metal fabrication setting.

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift 10-50+ pounds of heavy materials.

- Basic math skills for measurements.
