Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Press Operator specializing in Metal Stamping. Responsible for the setup and operation of mechanical power presses to produce precision metal components. This role ensures high-speed production efficiency while maintaining strict adherence to dimensional tolerances and upholding the highest standards of workplace safety, machine maintenance, and shop floor organization.
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up dies and automated feeders; load metal coils or blanks into mechanical presses. Monitor machine cycles to ensure continuous, correct forming and proper part ejection.
- Advanced Quality Inspection: Perform frequent in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Optical Verification: Use optical comparators to verify complex part profiles, radii, and geometries against blueprints and engineering specifications.
- Fluid & Leak Management: Monitor press lubrication levels and die-lube systems. Proactively identify, report, and contain any oil or coolant leaks to prevent floor hazards and equipment damage.
- Safety Compliance: Operate all equipment in strict accordance with OSHA standards and internal safety protocols. Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure all machine guarding is functional before operation.
- Housekeeping (5S): Maintain a clean and orderly workstation. This includesprompt scrap removal, immediately cleaning up oil drips/spills using approved materials, and ensuring the press and surrounding floor area remain professional and hazard-free.
- Tooling Oversight: Monitor die performance; identify and report signs of tool wear, pulled slugs, or burrs to the toolroom to minimize scrap.
- Accurate Reporting: Maintain precise daily production logs, documenting stroke counts, setup durations, and any mechanical adjustments.
- Experience: Proven experience operating mechanical power presses in a precision stamping environment.
- Metrology: Proficiency in using manual measurement tools and operating an optical comparator for detailed part verification.
- Safety & Maintenance Mindset: A proactive approach to identifying potential hazards, such as oil on the floor or faulty sensors, and a commitment to a "zero-accident" work environment.
- Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, including an understanding of critical tolerances.
- Communication: Adherence to an"Anti-Surprise" philosophy—immediately reporting any machine irregularities, oil leaks, tool issues, or quality deviations to the floor supervisor.
