BLACKSMITH/PRESS OPERATOR

Position Overview

This person will lead the forge crew in the forging operations. They will help direct the crew in forging, moving and loading material in furnaces, scheduling orders, and will work with other departments to coordinate the movement of material throughout the plant.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Will lead forge crew to forge material on presses and rolling mill

- Will read and understand forge instructions and notes and translate to press operation

- Will identify material and must maintain identification through out the forge process

- Will assist in loading and unloading of material in furnaces

- Must be able to drive manipulators for more advanced material movement in and out of furnaces and around press equipment

- Performs other related duties as requested

- Understanding of how different metals forge and act

- Understanding of overall material manufacturing processes

- Must be able to read and accurate measure using calipers and other instruments

Required Skills And Abilities

- Must be able to perform basic math to determine stop points, shrink factors, tolerance

- Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly

Education and Experience

- Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license

- Satisfactorily pass forklift driving training program or demonstrate safe handling of forklift in an on-site test
