What You’ll Do at Shapiro (Aligned to PACT)
- Actively engage with team members to build a positive, high-energy environment focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Assist/operate the production line when necessary to support throughput and team needs.
- Assist/off-load and load material when necessary to keep production flowing.
- Operate forklifts and heavy equipment safely and efficiently; support equipment use across shifts.
- Show flexibility and commitment with a willingness to work weekends or overtime as needed to meet production demands.
- Be responsible for all day-to-day plant operations and outcomes.
- Meet or exceed production goals while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Ensure all paperwork is properly completed, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Maintain accurate inventory and verify counts through disciplined processes.
- Report production/receiving data to the Plant Manager daily with clear, actionable insights.
- Complete all inspections/logs to ensure environmental compliance and adherence to required standards.
- Ensure all aspects of plant operations meet proposed ISO standards.
- Recommend policies and procedures that support company goals in safety, efficiency, quality, and environmental performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and recommend innovative changes that enhance efficiency, safety, quality, and environmental outcomes.
- Actively participate in production meetings, bringing data, ideas, and follow-through to drive improvements.
- Train team members on procedures, equipment, and machinery, and maintain training records to support skills growth and compliance.
- Use trends and feedback to refine workflows, reduce waste, and improve asset utilization.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound product flow, ensuring on-time receiving, staging, and shipping.
- Direct and assist team members with receiving and production operations to maintain alignment and momentum.
- Direct and monitor activities of all warehouse team members, setting clear expectations and coaching for success.
- Monitor the operation area to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with standards.
- Assist the Plant Manager in transportation needs—including dispatch, driver issues, breakdowns, and repairs—to minimize downtime.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or top management, collaborating across teams to achieve shared goals.
- Support product realization by following any additional procedures required by management.
- Ability to lift or handle up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including exposure to outdoor weather, dust, noise, and heavy machinery, while adhering to all OSHA safety standards and company policies.
What Sets You Apart (PACT in Action)
- Experience in metal recycling, scrap yard operations, or similar industrial/manufacturing environments.
- 1+ years of supervisory experience in an Operations role, with a track record of developing people and managing shifts. - 1+ years of experience in equipment maintenance—able to triage, schedule, and support repairs.- Customer service experience with a focus on reliability and responsiveness.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation (forklift, loader, crane certification a plus).
- Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards, environmental regulations, and hazard identification.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and foster a positive, safety-oriented culture.
