Operations Director – New Caney, TX

Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 79,000 miles of pipelines and 139 terminals. Our terminals store and handle various commodities including gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, chemicals, metals, petroleum coke and ethanol and other renewable fuels and feedstocks.

Primary purpose:

- Position will be located in New Caney, TX. (Relocation assistance may be considered.)

- The Director of Operations for Division 6 is responsible for the overall performance including but not limited to the safety performance, gas pipeline facilities operations and maintenance, regulatory compliance, budget preparation and stewardship, human resource management, training compliance, emergency response, technical and engineering project oversight, stewardship of the division damage prevention program, and federal/state/public liaison.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

- Coordinates and manages the performance of direct reports, including Operations Managers, Technical Manager, and administration support personnel to operate and maintain the pipelines and all associated facilities in a safe, compliant, efficient and reliable manner.

- Develops annual division goals that align with corporate, business unit and region goals and objectives.

- Routinely monitors all key areas of performance and develops plans to ensure company, business unit, region and division goals and objectives are accomplished.

- Oversees coordination of field operation and maintenance activities with Gas Control, Engineering, Business Development, EH&S and Finance Departments.

- Promotes and stewards division operations & maintenance budgets and financial forecasting. Oversees and administers approved budgets.

- Directs division's performance to meet or exceed all safety, budgetary, and regulatory compliance requirements and ensures alignment with corporate goals, including KM's Operations Management System.

- Coordinates, prepares or maintains various reports, records, and other documents concerning maintenance and operations issues, financial management, safety & regulatory compliance, and employee administrative issues.

- Develops and actively stewards manager/employee development to meet changing staffing need for all areas.

- Provides frequent communication to employees via email, conference calls, presentations, and group and one-on-one meetings to disseminate meaningful information, communicate goals, promote positive performance and develop a strong company culture.

- Actively promotes all Corporate and HR initiatives and ensures compliance in all recruiting, promotional opportunities and in the discipline process.

- Maintains a current working knowledge of regulatory and company operating requirements and coordinates activities with regulatory agencies, other company departments, customers, the public and Senior Management.

- Ensures all division employees are familiar with manuals, policies/procedures and technical standards.

- Acts as Incident Commander and Qualified Individual for an emergency response and as leader of the division Emergency Response Team as needed based on the level of an incident. Coordinates emergency response activities in conjunction with the Crisis Management Team. Activates and coordinates the Crisis Support Team if necessary. May act as the KM spokesperson to the media in the event of an emergency with media coverage.

- Ensures the proper management of an environmental impact in the event of a hazardous product release.

- Maintain an appropriate amount of visibility throughout the Division through periodic site visits.

Position Requirements

Education:

- Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience required.

- Engineering degree preferred.

- A minimum of 10 years of thorough working experience/knowledge in pipelines, compressor stations, gas treating operations, SCADA control systems, basic hydraulics and flow control systems, regulatory compliance standards, contract administration, damage prevention, and emergency response.

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

- A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.

Working conditions:

- The regular work environment is typically in an office. However, work will often require the director to be outside at facilities and exposed to extreme heat, cold and inclement weather. Computer related activities 15%-30% of time. Actual travel will vary significantly with ongoing work requirements however and average of approximately 25% is expected.

- Work inside and outside and frequent travel to facilities in Louisiana and Northeast Texas. Additional travel to headquarter office in Houston and other meeting locations as required.
