Brief Description
The
Operation Boiler House Shift Supervisoroversees the operation of the station to meet System Control load requirements. Oversees the assignment, execution, and completion of work by craftworkers. Ensures work is being performed in a productive, safe and quality manner, according to established Work Practice Procedures, with emphasis on environmental compliance and housekeeping. Ensures customer requirements are met. Provides leadership to direct reports such that they have information, training and knowledge required to perform the work as required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Directs the safe, continuous, efficient and economical operation of the plant during the scheduled shift. Assumes full administrative responsibility for the operation of the station in the absence of plant management. Ensures the plant is operated to meet all environmental compliance standards including: SO2, NOX, and Opacity.
- Communicates timely information and works closely with System Control concerning the availability and status of all station systems required to meet load requirements. Knowledgeable in the operation of system control and takes a leadership role during load curtailing events to ensure the duration of the event is minimized.
- Clearly identifies and defines the maintenance that is needed through the work request procedure and coordinates with the Maintenance department to ensure that equipment is serviced in a way satisfactory to plant needs. Utilizes the Daily Work Scheduling meeting for daily coordination of work and provides direction on future work through the Long Range Scheduling meeting. Verifies with Maintenance that requirements are being met for successful job completion. Coordinates work across craftworkers to ensure customer priorities are being met in timely and quality manner. Acquires equipment knowledge to better understand work processes to meet customer standards. Expedites use of resources as a result of emergency situations.
- Provides leadership, coaching and counseling to direct reports regarding job performance. Conducts annual performance appraisals and quarterly developmental review meetings in a timely manner. Ensures direct reports receive training in order to meet or improve their job performance. Keeps employees informed of work requirements, business conditions, company policies and other factors that impact their work performance and work environment. Analyzes and resolves work problems and grievances to create a productive and positive work climate. Conducts weekly safety and information meetings.
- Administers plant safety procedures. Includes, but not limited to, the Clearance Permit System, Confined Spaces, and the Cutting and Welding Permits. Ensures all Operations personnel adhere to and maintain proficiency in all personnel and equipment safety procedures.
- Provides System Control with reliable operation of the units
- Provides Department Personnel with the guidance and direction relating to personal goals in support of strategic goals
- Facilitates a collaborative working environment with other Station Departments
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- 2 year Associate Degree in related field required. 4 year Bachelor Degree in related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
- 5+ years power plant operations required. - 1+ years proven supervisory experience.- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels and work as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines.
- Demonstrated level of professionalism and positive attitude.
- Ability to exercise flexibility to work effectively in a changing environment.
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems at hand.
- Power plant environment, may require extended hours as needed.

All plant employees are expected to work safely at all times. Working at the power plant may involve:
- Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
- Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
- Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
- Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating switches, pushbuttons, and other controls.
- Visual acuity requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
- Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Summary
Applicants must possess a
valid driver's licenseand maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
