Overview
Marshall County REMC is seeking a skilled and dedicated Meter Technician to join our team that will directly report to the Working Foreman(s) under supervision of the Operations Manager.
This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems, particularly in high-voltage environments. A successful candidate has a strong background in meter testing and is adept at using various tools and equipment necessary for safe practices to do so.
The specific objectives for this position include:
1. Provide superior service to Marshall County REMC member-owners while maintaining a professional and courteous workplace.
2. Apply strong knowledge of meter testing practices with distribution systems, safety procedures and best practices to our operations team and department.
3. Demonstrate integrity, respect, accountability and strong work ethic in all interactions.
- Oversee and maintain all OMS metering systems.
- Install, test, calibrate, program, and repair electric meters in the shop.
- Install, read, troubleshoot, and test meters in the field.
- Clean, repair, and refurbish meters to ensure reliable operation.
- Accurately program all Marshall County REMC meters and verify proper functionality.
- Ensure all meters are properly sealed and documented after testing.
- Maintain accurate records for all meters tested, repaired, or replaced.
- Set, test, and maintain single-phase and three-phase meters, including services above 200 amps.
- Repair or replace damaged meter bases safely and efficiently.
- Perform meter change-outs in accordance with company standards and procedures.
- Investigate voltage fluctuations, power quality concerns, high bill complaints and related service issues for members.
- Respond to high-bill complaints and perform on-site service visits.
- Assist in investigations of meter tampering, theft, and stopped meters.
- Inspect substations to ensure AMR/AMI equipment is functioning properly.
- Manage and maintain Meter Department inventory, tools, and materials.
- Successful completion of an energy metering apprenticeship program is preferred.
- 4 years of experience testing meters is desired.
- Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) line specifications, the National Electric Code (NEC), the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Rules and Regulations.
- Experience operating voltmeters and ohmmeters for electrical testing is required.
- Positive attitude, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions.
- Must live within 30 minutes (30 miles) of legal driving time from the office.
- Having a Class A CDL license is a plus.
- A pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check is required.
- Must be knowledgeable of all types of electrical meters and electrical recording instruments.
- Must have indicated the ability to work on own initiative, cooperate with other employees to train and take instruction from supervisors.
