Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Reporting to the Sr Manager, Contracts and Quality Assurance of the Civil Inspection & Contracts Department, this role is
responsible for the management and oversight of a team of Move Up Civil Inspectors and the performance management of
Civil Contractors in Southern and Northern Interior.
The Civil Inspection team executes civil inspection activities for work from multiple BC Hydro stakeholders that design and
plan civil construction work. These stakeholders include Internal Design, System Improvement, Maintenance, Program
Management and T&D Engineering & Standards. The Civil Inspectors respond to a variety of stakeholder and customer
needs and inspect work of varying complexity which creates a highly stimulating and challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Civil Inspection Team Management:
- Manages a team of internal resources by outlining team performance objectives and expectations, assigning work
managing inspection volumes per resource and managing performance to achieve these objectives.
- Manage the resource budget for the Regional Civil Inspection team including financial tracking, training, coaching, and
- Monitor the quality and accuracy of the reporting and inspection protocol among the inspectors in the region and
collaborate among other regions to ensure consistency and efficiency among the inspection team.
- Communicate with design and distribution engineering to maintain and improve the inspection expectations as required
to reduce risk to BC Hydro
Contracts Management
- Responsible for oversight and execution of Regional Civil Underground Construction contracts.
- Attending and/or chairing meetings with contractors, monitoring schedules, managing change requests, managing claims
and disputes, accrual reporting, validation of payment requests, tracking contract deliverables.
- Responsible for reviewing/managing/releasing Work Allocation to the Regional Civil Underground Contractors.
- Liaise with other business groups including Design, Distribution Engineering, Customer Connect, Program and Project
teams to refine/establish processes to foster continuous improvement among different business groups.
- Supports internal and external stakeholders, to ensure all applicable protocols, procedures, policies, standards and
- Provides direction to Service Contract Administration support resource to review and issue civil construction work orders
- Ensuring efficient administration of the complete contract lifecycle including issuing work, closing work and prompt
- Reviewing quotes and making recommendations to award and providing contract interpretation that secures the best
- Technical training in the Civil/Structural or Electrical disciplines resulting in a university degree in engineering or
graduation from a technical institute in Design, Survey or Construction Project Management.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive Project/Contract Management experience on complex Civil Construction Projects is
- Demonstrated knowledge in construction methods and procedures in a distribution underground electrical utility
