Perform and coordinate complex technical and specialized work of a highly skilled nature in connection with the maintenance of plant equipment and facilities. Work with others in conducting engineering studies and special projects to help ensure the overall successful performance of plant equipment.

- Utilize a working knowledge of hand tools and portable power tools and their correct usage in order to maintain plant equipment.
- Utilizing a working knowledge of basic measuring tools such as rules, scales, straight edges, dividers, squares and protractors, layout simple figures on flat surfaces.
- Calculate areas, volumes, weights, etc. utilizing basic mathematical concepts.
- Comprehend moderately complex written material such as procedures, instructions, technical manuals, etc.
- Assist employees of a higher classification.
- Prepare and maintain records as required. This will include the accurate completion of job orders and writing new ones using the NPM system.
- Obtain clearance permits and determine that the equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged (upon completion of the appropriate training).
- Assist engineers and others with root cause determination of equipment/component failures.
- Must have at least 3 years' experience where the incumbent worked successfully in the maintenance field and has a basic understanding of mechanical concepts or equivalent Nuclear Navy experience.
- These are additional expectations for the job and could include specific work experience, license / certifications, preemployment testing, expectations about travel, shift work, etc.
- Successful completion of the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position. - Interpret simple blueprints, diagrams, drawings, flow prints, etc.
- Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
- Perform any tasks for which qualified via prescribed training and/or qualification programs.
- Adhere to all radiological control work practices within the assigned area of responsibility and contamination control program requirements. Identify and correct improper contamination practices as they occur.
- Perform all duties and work with other employees in a safe manner, in compliance with all appropriate Company safety policies and rules.
- Support and participate in Emergency Plan activities as assigned, in accordance with the procedures and policies applicable for the assigned role.
- Work with or in the vicinity of hazardous materials.
- Undertake other responsibilities as may be assigned by proper authority.
- A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.
- 30 months as Maintenance Mechanic C, plus five years of related experience. Thorough knowledge of the principles of mechanics and physics relative to nuclear equipment.
- 30 months as Maintenance Mechanic B, plus seven and one-half years of related experience. Thorough knowledge of the principles of mechanics and physics relative to nuclear equipment.
- Successful completion of the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position. - Read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, flow-prints, etc.
- Assemble, disassemble, bend and form material and equipment under any condition.
- Perform complex layout work.
- Direct and coordinate the proper alignment of equipment and equipment components.
- Assist with re-fueling and other fuel handling operations.
- Assist in the training of other employees.
- A physical abilities assessment is required for this position.
- Ability to lead and direct employees.
- Support and participate in the Emergency Plan Organization, HAZMAT response organization, and Corrective Action Program activities as assigned, and in accordance with procedures and policies applicable for the assigned role.
- Perform all duties, and work with others in a safe manner, in compliance with appropriate company safety policies and rules.
- Assume responsibility for continuously upgrading of knowledge and skill.
- Must be able to safely perform job duties while working at heights greater than 6 feet, using approved ladders, platforms, and fall-protection equipment.
- Performance of duties will involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the NRC.
- Work location will include a plant environment which may include exposure to: heat, cold, and noise.
- Work location will include outdoors, and therefore subject to weather conditions. Education, experience, licensing & certification requirements of this position conform to ANSI N18.1 - 1971and ANSI/ANS-3.1-1993.
Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
Hourly ranges posted from minimum to mid-point:
- Maintenance Mechanic-C hourly range: $34.99 - $36.39
- Maintenance Mechanic-B hourly range: $40.84 - $43.02
- Maintenance Mechanic-A hourly range: $46.31 - $48.52
