Journeyperson Electrician performs skilled electrical maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting on client vessels, shipyard assets, and facility infrastructure. Working under the direction of the Electrical Department Supervisor, this role supports safe, efficient shipyard operations by ensuring electrical systems are installed and maintained in compliance with applicable codes, marine regulations, and company/client standards.
- Perform electrical installation, maintenance, repair, and testing on client vessels, including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and associated equipment
- Conduct electrical maintenance and repairs on shipyard facilities, buildings, and infrastructure
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and system malfunctions and implement effective repairs
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, manuals, and technical specifications
- Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, marine regulations, safety standards, and company policies
- Follow direction from the Electrical Department Supervisor and coordinate with other trades as required
- Inspect tools, equipment, and materials to ensure safe and proper use
- Complete required documentation, work reports, and maintenance records accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Mentor Junior employees and apprentices
- Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, and training activities
- Support shipyard schedules by completing assigned tasks efficiently and professionally
- Maintain up-to-date certifications in areas such as WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space Entry, and Fall Protection.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Journeyperson Electrician certificate or equivalent.
- Previous work in a shipyard or marine environment considered an asset.
- Solid understanding of workplace safety practices and hazard identification.
- Willingness and physical ability to perform labour-intensive tasks and work in various weather conditions.
- Availability to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with administrative tasks such as documentation and reporting.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet facility access requirements
