IT Systems and Network Administrator
The IT Systems and Network Administrator is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and optimization of IT infrastructure across multiple locations, including remote mining sites. This role demands a combination of technical expertise in systems and network administration and adaptability to dynamic environments, The incumbent will support and maintain complex Microsoft-based systems and Cisco network infrastructure, ensuring high-availability and performance to meet operational demands
Key Responsibilities
Systems Administration (Microsoft Platform):
•Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
•Manage virtualized environments (VMware) to support system scalability and performance.
•Perform regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and system updates.
•User and Device Management
•Oversee user account provisioning and permissions via Active Directory and Azure AD.
•Support Office 365 applications, Microsoft Teams, and Exchange Online.
•Ensure endpoint management through tools like Microsoft Intune or Airwatch.
•Implement and maintain security policies, patch management, and next-gen endpoint protection solutions.
•Monitor and mitigate cybersecurity threats in compliance with company standards.
Network Administration (Cisco Platform)
•Infrastructure Management
•Work with the Network Manager to locally configure, monitor, and maintain Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls.
•Be a reliable backup resource for the Network Manager.
•Troubleshoot and resolve network performance issues, including latency, packet loss, and outages.
•Manage VLANs, QoS, and IP routing to optimize network efficiency.
•Wireless and Remote Connectivity
•Support and maintain wireless network solutions across remote and urban locations.
•Manage VPNs and remote access solutions to ensure secure connectivity for on-site and off-site personnel.
•Monitoring and Optimization:
•Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds) to track performance and identify issues.
•Continuously optimize network performance to meet operational needs, particularly in high-demand or remote locations.
Support For Remote Mining Operations
•Provide hands-on support for hardware and software issues at remote sites, including basic peripherals and industrial IT systems.
•Train on-site staff in basic IT troubleshooting and ensure proper use of IT systems.
•Based primarily on-site in Lynn Lake (camp operation) to deploy, configure, and troubleshoot IT systems and networks.
•Ensure IT infrastructure at remote locations is operational and aligned with corporate standards
•Environmental Adaptability:
•Work in challenging conditions, including rugged terrains, extreme weather, and temporary accommodations.
Working Conditions
This role may require flexible hours in order to remotely accommodate the schedules of various mine sites, project teams, construction teams, and their requirements. The schedule for this position is primarily based in a camp operation working on a rotational schedule with flights provided.
Experience
Preferred•Certifications such as MCSE, CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent is highly desirable.
•At least 5 years of experience managing IT systems and network administration for medium or large companies with complex infrastructure requirements.
•Experience in industries with remote operations, such as mining, oil & gas, or utilities, is an asset.
•High proficiency with Microsoft systems, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, Office 365, and MDM.
•In-depth knowledge of Cisco network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
•Familiarity with virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, VMware).
•Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Barracuda).
•Working knowledge of IT security principles and tools (e.g., endpoint protection, firewalls).
•Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for supporting non-technical staff.
•Ability to work independently and in team environments in remote and resource-constrained environments.
•Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and handle high-pressure situations.
