Job Summary
Morton Salt is seeking a skilled and proactive IT Network & Systems Administrator to join our dynamic team and help support and maintain the company’s critical infrastructure across multiple locations. This role is responsible for the administration, troubleshooting, and optimization of network systems, servers, and end-user devices in both office and industrial environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Windows and Linux server environments, IP networking, virtualization, and enterprise applications, with a focus on reliability, security, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include providing first and second-level support for network and server infrastructure, managing hardware and software installations, maintaining system security and backups, and supporting business-critical applications. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional IT teams, vendors, and plant operations to ensure seamless technology integration and performance.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in IT systems administration, with proficiency in Microsoft technologies (Hyper-V, 365, SQL), Active Directory, Azure, and ITIL-based service management. Experience in manufacturing or operations technology (OT) environments is preferred. Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for all technical responsibilities.
•Provide support for office and remote networks, servers (Windows 2016/2019), and Linux systems (SUSE, Red Hat).
•Troubleshoot and administer Cisco, Dell, and Stratix switches; manage VLANs, IP routing, and LAN/WAN performance.
•Monitor and maintain optimal performance, connectivity, and operation of networked equipment with respect to all LAN/WAN-related network sites and services.
•Support workstations (Windows 7–11), printers, VOIP, scanners, PLCs, and industrial IP devices.
•Collaborate with IT teams (Office, Plant, Application) to support new and existing systems.
•Coordinate with vendors, contractors, project managers and internal staff to ensure compliance with IT standards, policies, and procedures.
•Analyze business needs and develop hardware/software solutions.
•Design and maintain 24/7 production control and monitoring systems.
•Implement, support, and maintain business applications, including the full Microsoft M365 suite of applications and SaaS tools.
•Continuously improve system configurations, technologies, and IT procedures.
•Deploy and manage network software and communication systems (phones, voicemail, video, fax).
•Perform backups, antivirus/malware protection, and disaster recovery tasks.
•Execute system migrations across multiple domains and platforms.
•Install and maintain desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, and peripherals.
•Track hardware/software inventory and manage licensing.
•Manage user accounts, email, and access controls as per company policy.
•Plan and implement upgrades, patches, and equipment refreshes, and data migrations.
•Provides user training and the creation of instruction manuals as required.
•Create standard operating procedures where applicable, including annual auditing and updating of procedures you are responsible for maintaining.
•Support web-based systems like Outlook Web Access and other SaaS platforms.
•Future growth potential to troubleshoot intricate network and systems issues down to the physical layer, through on up to the application layer.
•Troubleshoot complex issues across the physical layer up to the application layer.
•Apply critical thinking in 24/7 mission-critical environments.
•Automate IT tasks where possible.
•Assist with hardware/software procurement.
•Supports other key initiatives as the business dictates.
•Third level support is provided and training into this role is provided.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•5+ years of experience with:
•+ Installing IT hardware and software.
+ IT operating systems and server application platforms, especially with Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technologies, Microsoft 365, Microsoft SQL administrative tasks.
+ ITIL processes and experience in utilizing ticketing systems such as Service Now.
+ Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, Windows Terminal Server, VDI desktop concepts, and Desktop security applications such as anti-viral applications.
+ Documenting work procedures clearly and effectively.
•Travel required between locations up to 25% of the time.
•Experience supporting a manufacturing organization in the Operations Technology (OT) space is preferred.
•Microsoft certifications preferred.
