Position Title: Hydro Excavation Laborer I

Pay Rate: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour DOE


Classification: Non-Exempt


Essential Functions:

The Hydro Excavation Laborer I crews are responsible for going into residential and commercial areas working on underground utilities and working with their crew to complete tasks for the day.


Roles and Responsibilities:

- Assists crew leader in construction, reconstruction and maintenance work

- Assists crew leader in construction, reconstruction and maintenance work

- Assists equipment operators by swamping, hand digging and locating underground obstructions

- Works with specialized equipment including jackhammers, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners and other industry tools

- Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials

- Cleans and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards

- Maintains paperwork during the day including DVIR and driver’s logbook

- Ensures the truck has current licenses, tags, permits, and proof of insurance

- Assisted with setup and breakdown of hydro vac trucks and job site safety per company protocols.

- Maintained and cleaned tools, equipment, and trucks to ensure safe and proper operation.

- Supported potholing, trenching, and daylighting operations using high-pressure water and vacuum systems.

- Followed detailed instructions to complete excavation work while avoiding damage to existing infrastructure.

- Adhered to OSHA and company safety standards, using appropriate PPE and hazard recognition.

- Worked in various weather conditions and job environments, including confined spaces and roadside projects.

- Communicated with team leaders and clients to ensure accurate completion of excavation tasks.

- Performed routine maintenance checks and reported equipment issues to supervisors promptly.

- Safely works within the traffic control and job site cleanup as needed to maintain safe working conditions.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:

- Approximately 1 year of experience in a laboring position in the utilities field.

- High School Diploma or equivalent required


Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.

- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
