Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. Role Summary
The Underground Operations Engineer is responsible for supporting the mining team by assisting with overseeing and coordinating underground operations. They will work collaboratively with both the technical services and mine operations teams, ensuring the successful development and implementation of the short-term mine plan. Additionally, the role involves supporting underground projects, managing QA/QC programs, and collecting and reporting key performance indicator (KPI) data to promote safe and efficient mining operations
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the development and implementation of the short-term mine plan by
- Conducting field inspections to assess the necessary work for upcoming areas.
- Organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating weekly underground tasks, such as backfill, ground support, rehabilitation, and miscellaneous work.
- Providing daily updates during morning meetings to clarify or communicate ongoing planning activities.
- Coordinating with the mine operations and technical services teams to ensure alignment on the status and priorities of underground tasks.
- Contribute to underground projects, including initiatives for automation implementation, mine services, safety, capital projects, and Deswik OPS implementation.
- Monitor operational performance by collecting relevant data, generating key performance indicator (KPI) reports, and offering performance improvement suggestions.
- Establish and manage the continuous improvement program.
- Evaluate the costs and operational practices across various mining areas, providing recommendations for optimization and improvements.
- Support the implementation of underground standards and quality assurance/control programs, including those related to production drilling, ground support, and mine services.
- Conduct regular field inspections to verify that work is being performed safely and in compliance with New Gold’s standards.
- Provide coverage for General Supervisor when needed.
- B.Sc. degree or Mining Technology diploma in Mining Engineering or suitable technical skills.
- Atleast 4 years of experience in an underground mining environment
- P.Eng. designation with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or eligibility for membership, is an asset; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Proficiency with mine planning computer software and excel (Deswik.CAD, .OPS preferred.)
- Experience working underground at an underground mine preferred.
- Strong communication and people skills (oral, written, listening).
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $100,000.00 -$125,000.00
