CT FIELD ENGINEER Responsibilities and Duties
► The CT Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and continuous improvement of coiled tubing services. This role ensures that engineering projects meet API Q2 compliance, industry standards, and customer requirements. The Engineering Manager provides technical guidance to the engineering team and collaborates with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to optimize performance and reliability.
► "Engineering and Design Oversight
- Oversee the design, development, and testing of coiled tubing and pressure control equipment.
- Ensure all engineering processes and designs comply with API Q2, BSEE, and industry standards.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and innovations to improve efficiency."
- Ensure all engineering projects align with API Q2 requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with the Quality and HSE teams to ensure proper documentation and testing of designs.
- Conduct and oversee failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions."
- Develop and manage engineering project timelines and budgets.
- Allocate resources, including personnel, software, and testing facilities.
- Ensure project deliverables align with customer expectations and operational requirements."
- Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support to field operations.
- Assist in equipment performance analysis and process optimization.
- Review and approve technical manuals, procedures, and engineering documentation."
- Supervise and mentor engineering personnel, ensuring competency development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and training programs for the engineering team.
- Foster collaboration between engineering, operations, and maintenance teams."
► Assists the Dept Manager in ensuring that all personnel assigned to the district are trained as per government, Company and Customer requirements.
► Provides technical support to sales force.
► Ensures that the district is in compliance with and current with all Company, Customer and regulatory agencies rule, regulations, policies and procedures (i.e. - quality, safety, environmental, personnel, training, etc.).
► Assists the Engineering Manager in controlling the expense/income ratio through aggressive and proactive management of District operations.
► Ensures that the district produces quality products and services by:
- Verifying that all pre-job planning and paperwork is complete and that any issues pertaining to such have been addressed.
- Verifying that all inspection and testing procedures are followed prior to a job.
- Verifying that all equipment inspection and testing documentation is filled out and current prior to sending the equipment to a customer location.
- Verifying that all maintenance and general upkeep of the coiled tubing units and related equipment is complete and properly recorded..
- Verifying the completion of an incident investigation and a root cause analysis for all high potential incidents and serious problem situations.
- Verifying the completion of all corrective actions mandated by a root cause analysis.
► Maintains a safe work area or job site by following Company HSE and Standard Operating Procedures manuals.
► Ensures that JSA's are a regular part of each job.
► Ensures that communication with the work force are open and two-way through the use of pre job planning, post job review and monthly safety meetings.
► Re-enforces the "STOP WORK" program with all employees.
Prerequisites
► The employee must have completed all of the required "Skills" training for the CT Field Engineer position before being eligible for advancement to Operations Supervisor.
► "Technical and Industry Knowledge"
- Expertise in coiled tubing, pressure control, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong knowledge of API Q2, BSEE, and other industry regulations.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD) and FEA analysis.
- Proficiency in Coiled Tubing Simulation Software (Cerberus, OrionNET)"
- Strong understanding of HSE policies, risk assessment, and failure analysis.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to ensure compliance with engineering standards and API Q2 requirements."
► Demonstrated proficiency in coiled tubing unit operations, including correctly connecting hydraulic hoses, equipment start-up, engaging of prime mover and hydraulic pumps.
► Demonstrated knowledge of the function and location of all coil tubing operating controls.
► Demonstrated proficiency in the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment in the field. Abilities would include diagnosing downhole complications and troubleshooting surface equipment.
► Ability to work a "24 hour on call" schedule.
► Ability to meet the physical, language, mathematical and reasoning ability requirements of the Operations Supervisor position.
Functional Capacity / Physical Requirements
► Ability to lift a sack weighing 40 lbs. from floor and carry 20 feet, place sack on 42" platform and return to floor 5 times.
► Ability to pull a sled with 75 lbs. a distance of 50 feet one time.
► Ability to hang from a 1 1/2" rope for a minimum of 15 seconds (offshore only).
► Ability to climb to 3rd rung of stepladder return to floor 5 times.
► Ability to lift 40 lbs. from floor to knuckle one time.
► Ability to lift 30 lbs. knuckle to overhead, (crown) level.
Language Skills
► Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
► Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
► Have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees.
Mathematical Skills
► Ability to work with advanced mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamental of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
► Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
► Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
► Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diametric form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, or a related Engineering field (required).
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in coiled tubing, pressure control, or oilfield services engineering.
- Proven experience in project management and team leadership."
