We’re looking for an experienced Estimating Manager
to lead and oversee our Estimating Department. This role is ideal for someone with extensive ship repair or marine estimating experience who enjoys leading teams, improving processes, and supporting business growth in a fast-paced environment.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Estimating Department
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of estimators, procurement specialists, and support staff
- Assign and prioritize work to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met
- Develop and maintain standardized estimating and proposal processes
- Prepare and review base cost estimates and proposal packages
- Oversee all phases of the estimating process, including:
- Responding to RFPs
- Interpreting drawings and specifications
- Conducting ship checks
- Developing pricing strategies
- Negotiating contracts and managing change orders
- Participate in business development efforts and help identify new opportunities
- Communicate regularly with executive leadership, vendors, subcontractors, and consultants
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices
- Assist with workforce planning and future staffing needs
- Perform final reviews and approvals of bid packages prior to submission
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in ship repair or the marine industry
- Management experience (5 years preferred)
- Strong understanding of ship repair planning, estimating methods, and cost strategies
- Knowledge of maritime construction practices, terminology, and contracts
- Experience negotiating contract changes and preparing labor estimates
- Familiarity with work sequencing, scheduling, and proposal development
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and government contracts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, or similar scheduling tools
- Knowledge of Navy vessels, NAVSEA standards, and applicable federal and state regulations
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field

- TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
- DBIDS (Defense Biometric Identification System) credential
