Position Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role supports safe manufacturing operations of our facility by proactively identifying hazards, reducing risk, and promoting a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory standard (e.g., Cal/OSHA, Cal/EPA, DOT, CA Fire Code).
- Maintain and submit required environmental and safety reports.
- Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and inquiries.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for extrusion presses, handling equipment, and downstream operations.
- Ensure proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) selection and compliance.
- Manage hazardous waste in compliance with California DTSC regulations (generator status, labeling, storage, disposal).
- Maintain SDS inventory and chemical management systems.
- Administer and support the company’s Workers’ Compensation program in compliance with California regulations and coordinate with insurance carriers, medical providers, and legal representatives.
- Lead and document incident investigations related to recordable injuries and workers’ compensation claims.
- Develop and manage return-to-work and modified duty programs to facilitate early and safe employee reintegration.
- Maintain OSHA logs (300, 300A, 301) and ensure alignment with workers’ compensation records.
- Support HR with workers’ compensation-related documentation, audits, and litigation support as needed.
- Conduct safety orientation and ongoing training for employees and supervisors.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and internal audits and Identify hazards and ensure timely corrective action.
- Develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans (EAP).
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing (metal or aluminum extrusion preferred).- Direct experience managing Workers’ Compensation programs in California.
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
- CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager)
- OSHA 30-hour (General Industry)
- Familiarity with aluminum extrusion processes (press operation, heat treatment, anodizing, finishing).
- Knowledge of industrial equipment hazards (presses, saws, conveyors, forklifts).
- Experience with environmental permitting and reporting systems.
- Ability to walk production floors, climb stairs/ladders, and wear PPE.
- Exposure to high temperatures, noise, and industrial environments.
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor.
- May require occasional off-hours support or emergency response.
This represents the employer’s good faith estimate of the base pay range at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, skills, experience, and other factors permitted by law.
California pay range: $70,500 USD - $85,000 USD
