Job Summary
The EHS Specialist is responsible for performing complex, technical work across a wide range of environmental, health, and safety disciplines to ensure full compliance with organizational EHS standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. This role coordinates EHS compliance activities for safety and environmental programs, reviews and interprets regulations, supports incident investigations, and serves as a liaison between regulatory agencies and plant personnel. The Specialist maintains compliance documentation, supports emergency preparedness training, and promotes event-free operations through proactive risk identification and mitigation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform required environmental reporting, including Title V, EDR, DMR, stormwater, hazardous materials business plans, and other applicable submittals.
- Provide oversight of EHS programs for general industry safety, air and water/wastewater compliance, waste management, PSM/RMP/CalARP, DOT, and EPCRA.
- Partner with operations to enhance employee engagement in EHS programs through goal setting, planning, and active participation.
- Assess and communicate physical, operational, and regulatory EHS risks to support safe, compliant operations.
- Lead initiatives to share best practices and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Support investigations of environmental and safety incidents, accidents, injuries, and near-misses; recommend corrective actions.
- Track compliance status, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely completion of all required EHS tasks and reporting.
- Review collection and recordkeeping practices to ensure proper documentation and compliance.
- Prepare and submit internal and external EHS reports as required.
- Support internal and external audits, inspections, and EHS-related training activities.
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, EPCRA, and multimedia environmental compliance.
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements, permits, and technical guidance and apply them to plant operations and procedures.
- Proficient in conducting risk assessments, identifying hazards, and driving corrective and preventive actions.
- Skilled in incident/near-miss investigation, root-cause analysis, and documentation of findings and recommendations.
- Ability to serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines, track compliance tasks, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Effective communicator capable of partnering with operations and influencing safe work practices across the site.
- Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience, preferably within the power generation industry.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and compliance requirements.
- Professional EHS certifications (CSP, CHMM, CIH, REM, etc.) preferred.

Within this range, employee pay will be determined by a combination of factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and overall performance. As this job posting is available in multiple locations, the expected pay scale may vary depending on the specific geographic area.
Compensation Range per year: $135,000 - $145,000
