EDF Innovation Lab in Palo Alto is EDF R&D’s strategic outpost in North America. The mission of the Lab is twofold: (1) to explore and analyze disruptive technologies and trends for the EDF Group, leveraging Silicon Valley’s innovation ecosystem and building local partnerships; and (2) to develop and test new markets, businesses, and services that support EDF’s growth in decentralized, data-driven, and low-carbon energy sectors. In short, we’re a dynamic team of 20 experts working across 7 activities: Digital Innovation, Energy Markets, Smart Grid, Customer Solutions, Net-Zero Decarbonization, E-Mobility, and Open Innovation.

About the role

In this role, you’ll join the Digital Innovation Team to work at the intersection of technology and energy.

The mission of the Digital Innovation Team is to identify breakthrough opportunities across AI, Robotics, Quantum, and Cybersecurity for the energy sector, and then de-risk these innovations through in-depth studies and hands-on testing to guide EDF R&D strategy.

This means diving deep into market and technology analysis while always keeping the bigger picture in mind: how these innovations could translate at EDF and create business value. You’ll bridge research and strategy and eventually build proof-of-concepts to validate whether cutting-edge solutions can work at utility scale.

We’re looking for someone with a hybrid business-technical profile who is highly curious and proactive. You should be comfortable discussing technical details and presenting strategic insights clearly to executives.

Key responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include, among others:

- Deliver intelligence reports on the current state and future direction of robotics in the U.S., analyzing market dynamics, regulations, technology maturity, emerging trends, key use cases, and best practices from US electric utilities.

- Explore how AI agents and multi-agent systems could be leveraged to address flexibility use cases.

- Perform intelligence reporting on cybersecurity, analyzing the evolving U.S. landscape to extract clear strategic recommendations, considering geopolitical context, research priorities, and export control constraints.

- Collaborate with international teams across the U.S., Europe, and China.

- Participate in conferences, events, and networking activities to identify emerging signals, uncover new opportunities, and build partnerships.

- Present findings to diverse stakeholders, including at the executive level.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates who:

- Is pursuing or have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, business, energy, or related fields.

- Have prior experience in consulting, market studies, or technology analysis.

- Have a strong understanding of emerging technologies, including robotics, AI, cybersecurity, and their potential applications in the energy sector.

- Have prior experience in robotics or AI (preferred but not required).

- Are curious, proactive, and have a strategic mindset.

- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Are comfortable working independently while also collaborating effectively in a multicultural, international environment.

- Must have authorization to work in the US.
