Virginia Transformer Corporation (VTC) is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions that improve operational efficiency, decision-making, and scalability across the business.

This role will focus on practical, applied AI—supporting manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, HR, finance, and commercial teams through automation, analytics, forecasting, and intelligent systems. The ideal candidate is technically strong, business-curious, and motivated to solve real-world problems in a complex industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and deploy AI / machine learning models to support manufacturing, operations, supply chain, HR, and commercial use cases.

- Partner with business stakeholders to translate operational problems into scalable AI solutions.

- Build and maintain data pipelines, feature engineering workflows, and model training processes.

- Apply AI techniques to areas such as:

- - Demand forecasting and capacity planning

- Quality and defect analysis

- Predictive maintenance

- Supply chain optimization

- Workforce and recruiting analytics

- Process automation and decision support

- Integrate AI solutions with existing enterprise systems (ERP, MES, ATS, finance, etc.).

- Monitor deployed models for performance, accuracy, and drift; refine as needed.

- Document models, assumptions, and processes for transparency and reuse.

- Support responsible AI practices, including data security, governance, and ethical use.

- Stay current on AI tools and technologies relevant to industrial and enterprise environments.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Associates required.

- Strong proficiency in Python; working knowledge of SQL.

- Hands-on experience with machine learning fundamentals (model selection, training, validation).

- Experience using AI/ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.

- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software development best practices.

- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical business partners.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with manufacturing, operations, supply chain, or industrial data.

- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).

- Exposure to MLOps, model deployment, or CI/CD pipelines.

- Experience with time-series forecasting, optimization, NLP, or generative AI.

- Experience integrating analytics or AI into ERP, MES, or enterprise reporting systems.

Key Skills & Attributes

- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset

- Business-oriented thinking with technical depth

- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment

- High ownership, accountability, and attention to detail

- Curiosity and continuous-learning mindset

Why This Role at Virginia Transformer

- Direct impact on a 5,500+ employee, fast-growing manufacturing organization

- Opportunity to apply AI to real operational challenges, not theoretical use cases

- High visibility across leadership and business functions
