J MAR’s client, a well-established wholesale distributor of HVAC components, is seeking a hands-on Credit Manager
to manage day-to-day credit, accounts receivable, and collections activities. This role is ideal for a credit professional ready to step into broader responsibility while being
mentored and developed for higher-level finance leadership over time.
The position focuses on owning credit processes rather than managing staff and offers meaningful exposure to decision-making, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Review and evaluate the creditworthiness of new and existing customers using financial analysis, credit reports, and trade references.
- Process and render timely credit approval decisions for customer credit applications in accordance with established credit policies.
- Manage customer credit limits, payment terms, and account conditions, escalating exceptions as needed.
- Own day-to-day collections activity, including proactive outreach to customers to resolve past-due balances and reduce aging receivables.
- Negotiate and administer payment arrangements for customers with outstanding balances, documenting all collection efforts and outcomes.
- Identify delinquent or high-risk accounts and coordinate escalation to external collection agencies or legal counsel, as appropriate.
- Reconcile customer payments to open invoices and investigate discrepancies, unapplied cash, or potential bad debt exposure.
- Maintain complete and accurate customer credit files, ensuring required documentation (credit applications, tax exemption certificates, trade references) is current and properly retained.
- Prepare monthly accounts receivable aging reports and participate in periodic reviews with accounting leadership to build analytical and reporting skills.
- Support the maintenance and ongoing improvement of credit and collections processes with guidance from senior leadership, balancing risk management with business growth objectives.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests by compiling supporting documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives designed to support professional growth and expanded responsibility.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of hands-on experience
in credit, accounts receivable, and/or commercial collections.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles related to accounts receivable, cash application, and bad debt reserves.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or credit management systems preferred.
- Ability to analyze customer financial information and make sound credit decisions within established guidelines.
- Comfortable communicating directly with customers regarding credit terms, payment expectations, and past-due balances.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain credit decisions and collection matters professionally.
- Motivated, career-minded professional seeking
mentorship, training, and long-term growth
within a stable organization.
