Coordinate assigned AEP construction projects located in AEP service territory. Direct and administer the planning, scheduling, QA/QC, contract administration, coordination, and supervision of all construction work activities in a safe and economical manner. Partner with internal (plant management teams) and external customers, labor, contractors, suppliers, vendors, and governmental agencies.
- Coordinates and inspects work to monitor and ensure safety and environmental policies are being followed and that project is being constructed per the specifications, drawings and permits.
- Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, team or those external to the company including contractors, vendors, suppliers, regulatory agencies and community groups. Support and hold employees and contractors accountable to AEP Safety Policies, ensuring a safe working environment, and focused on "Zero Harm". Support contractors in pre-mobilization activities and development of work plan.
- Coordinate with project management and engineering & design groups to ensure the appropriate drawings are issued and available to support construction activities.
- Coordinate resolution of design conflicts with field constraints (interference: plant and best field solution). Where appropriate assist the contractor in preparing formal Request for information Interface with plant personnel to resolve plant's needs and integrate construction activities with plant operating and outage schedules.
- Coordinate / adjust construction needs based on schedule or budget changes, and/or as-found conditions. Identify field-purchased material needs (commodity items) and support the procurement process.
- Monitor quality of workmanship and schedule adherence of all contractors and subcontractors and notify Construction Management of any deficiencies. Provide assistance to material suppliers for nonconformance issues and rework.
- Create extra work orders, back charge documents, track extra work order time sheets and provide information for schedule development and changes. Verify and approve daily time, material and equipment sheets as required for "Time & Material" and "Target" type contracts. Provide training and guidance to others to support team goals. Comply with and promote ethically sound behavior and instill a sense of shared accountability among employees.
- Seek input from Subject Matter Experts by asking the right questions, understanding the nuances and by clarifying and validating information and not by relying on one's own knowledge base or assumptions.
- Associates degree in related field i.e., Construction Management or Engineering Technology from an accredited college (see required experience).
- OR High school diploma/GED with experience (see required experience)
- Associates degree: Minimum 6 years' experience in: industrial construction projects, project management, project controls, fossil plant operations, labor negotiations or related experience.
- High school diploma / GED: min. of 10 years' experience in one of the following: project management, project controls, fossil plant operations, labor negotiations or working on industrial construction projects as a skilled worker such as a boilermaker, ironworker, electrician, pipefitter, operator, laborer, millwright or related experience.
- Must have the ability to lead and function in multi-discipline teams.
- Position requires working outside in all types of weather and exposure to hazardous materials
- Demonstrate effective leadership, team building and meeting management skills.Develop the ability to lead a team and a project to successful conclusion.
- Demonstrate communication skills, both written and verbal, with all stakeholders including team members, sponsors, management and senior management.
- Develop an economic and business acumen with an understanding of the Engineering & Design, Procurement, Contracting, Estimating, Construction and Startup procedures and processes.
- Demonstrate strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment and prioritization of project activities. Support the organization of project activities, delegate project task assignments, set team requirements and expectations to manage deliverables and hold team members accountable.
- Demonstrate conflict management skills to resolve disputes and to maximize synergies with an overriding goal to do the "right thing" for the company. Demonstrate an understanding of scope management. Assist with the evaluation and determination of the skill sets and capabilities of team members to ensure project success. Accountable for project assignments.
- Demonstrate proficiency and advanced knowledge of construction methodologies.
- Demonstrate proficiency in coordinating complex outages, project assignments in a safe, healthy, efficient and economical manner. Position may require extended hours to accomplish assigned tasks and meet project/outage requirements and schedules. Must be willing to accept field assignments.
- Extensive travel required and possible relocation.
