We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Waterworks Supervisor (Grade IV ORC) to lead operations at the Boone, Iowa Water Treatment Plant. This is a key leadership position responsible for the overall performance, regulatory compliance, safety, and operational excellence of the facility.
This position serves as the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for the Boone Water Treatment Plant and provides full operational leadership of the facility. The Waterworks Supervisor is responsible for ensuring reliable treatment operations, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and safe facility performance.
This is a working supervisor role, meaning the successful candidate will actively participate in plant operations while leading and mentoring the operations team. The position works closely with and interfaces routinely with City leadership and reports directly to the Regional Manager.
- Serve as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) in compliance with Iowa DNR regulations.
- Lead and supervise water treatment plant staff including scheduling, training, and performance oversight.
- Operate and monitor treatment systems including pumps, motors, filters, chemical feed systems, and process controls.
- Ensure full compliance with Iowa DNR, EPA, and all drinking water regulatory requirements.
- Oversee laboratory sampling, testing, and process monitoring programs.
- Maintain operational logs, compliance records, and regulatory reporting.
- Utilize SCADA systems and instrumentation to monitor plant performance and diagnose operational issues.
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs and coordinate equipment repairs.
- Ensure adherence to company safety programs and regulatory safety requirements.
- Participate in budgeting, operational planning, and facility improvement initiatives.
- Represent plant operations in meetings with City leadership and company management.
- Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies, City officials, and the public.
- Respond to operational emergencies and participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
- Active Iowa DNR Grade IV Water Operator License (or ability to obtain within an approved timeframe).
- Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in water treatment plant operations.
- Previous supervisory or lead operator experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of drinking water treatment processes, plant equipment, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with SCADA systems, process controls, and instrumentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex operational issues and maintain treatment performance.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Valid Iowa Driver's License
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation
- Ability to respond to operational emergencies when required
