- The ability to exercise judgment and gain experience to operate or support the operation of a production process
- The ability to use considerable judgment to control and understand various processes, and the care and dexterity to operate equipment to move products, materials, and equipment
- Working with the ability to exercise a high degree of care and attention for the materials, products, and equipment to protect and maintain the various facilities
- The ability to understand, plan, and maintain the efficient flow of materials and production, including the ability and fitness to perform all physical duties of the required functions to maintain an acceptable level of productivity in a primary production environment
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, or related discipline
- Relevant water treatment operator training and experience would be a strong asset
- 4th Class Operating Engineer Certificate would be an asset
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Good knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes to operate the facilities
- Analytical, problem-solving, planning, and scheduling skills required to effectively inspect, operate , and monitor the facilities processes and equipment
- Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance; take samples, interpret results, and make process control adjustments to resolve operating issues
- Good oral and written communication skills to liaise with a variety of people including coworkers, clients, suppliers, while keeping accurate logs and writing reports
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and chemistry to make calculations for chemical and operating processes
- Ability to interpret maintenance manuals, blueprints, and other technical specifications; use and storage of industrial chemicals
- Familiarity with computers, including monitoring and operating systems
- Ability to work in a team environment, take initiative and perform manual labour when required
- The job is within a heavy industrial environment and you may be required to work within various areas of the facility. Depending on the area you work in, the environmental conditions may be hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy
- Safety is our highest priority, and safety procedures and guidelines must be adhered to at all times . This includes wearing personal protective equipment, such as a hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, flame retardant clothing and safety shoes with metatarsal protection at all times during a work shift
- Employees work in a unionized, highly industrial setting
- Our facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days a year with varying hours of work including 8 and 12 hour rotating shifts
- This means that you may be required to work different days of the week each time you rotate shifts. In other words, you may be required to work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays
- The position requires you to work overtime as needed
- Punctuality and attendance is extremely important to the success of the operations in general as well as contributing to an overall positive team environment
- A valid driver’s license and vehicle is required to work at this facility
