Under general supervision, the Water Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water production, treatment, storage, and distribution systems. This position ensures safe, reliable, and compliant potable water service in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain water treatment facilities, wells, pumps, storage tanks, and distribution systems.
- Collect water samples and perform routine testing in compliance with TCEQ and EPA regulations.
- Read, record, and maintain operational logs, reports, and regulatory documentation.
- Inspect water lines, valves, meters, hydrants, and related infrastructure.
- Respond to water main breaks, leaks, service interruptions, and customer complaints.
- Assist with installation, repair, and replacement of water mains, service lines, meters, and appurtenances.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
- Participate in after-hours, weekend, and on-call rotations as required.
- Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe working condition.
- Maintain Well/Treatment plant facilities (property landscaping, cutting grass, fence, mop/sweep floors, trim trees).

- Perform related assigned job duties as assigned and cross train in other departments.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Texas Class C driver's license
- Ability to obtain a TCEQ Water Operator D License within 6-12 months of hire.
- Basic knowledge of water system operations or utility maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, maps, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions.
- Current TCEQ Class D, C, or B Water Operator License.
- One (1) or more years of experience in municipal water or utility operations.
- Experience with SCADA systems and water treatment processes.
- Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code related to water utilities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Knowledge of water treatment and distribution principles.
- Ability to operate tools, machinery, and testing equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- To lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel-and work. in confined. spaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exposure to chemicals, mechanical equipment, and environmental elements.
