Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the Impact Benefits Agreement (IBA) and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Ontario communities. Schedule: 14 days in & 14 days off - 12 hours per day, 6:00am - 6:00pm (FIFO)
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a student who wants to gain valuable underground mine site experience in all facets of mining engineering. This opportunity is available for a minimum of 12 months and upto 16 months internship starting May 13th 2026 onwards.
- Work alongside the Mine Planning team in producing development, stoping, and drill and blast designs using Deswik in accordance with engineering best practices and standard
- Assist ventilation technicians in conducting ventilation surveys and determining ventilation requirements.
- Gain exposure in underground survey techniques and assist in cavity monitor surveys of the workings.
- Gain exposure in underground rock mechanics and assist with pull tests underground.
- Gain exposure to underground safety standards, ground control practices and site specific procedures
- Current enrolment in a Canadian-accredited undergraduate mining engineering program.
- Excellent communication and people skills (oral, written, listening)
- Exposure to mine planning computer software and Excel (Deswik preferred)
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
- Ability to work a FIFO rotation in an active underground mining environment.
- Positive attitude & eagerness to learn.
