Please note this position is shift work, and the successful candidate will be working shifts of 14 days in a row on site
followed by 7 days off in a row.
Based out of Fort St. John, British Columbia, BC Hydro Generation Engineering’s Site C Project (The Project) has an
opening for students studying Mechanical or Electrical Engineering who would be interested in contributing their knowledge
and developing their abilities within the Site C Project’s (The Project) Resident Engineering Team (RE Team). Students will
be working a 14/7 shift, with 14 days of work in a row followed by 7 days off.
The Project includes a wide variety of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering related construction activities including
witnessing testing, verifying equipment installation and alignment, reviewing engineering drawings and reports, and
reviewing and preparing maintenance and operations documentation for balance of plant equipment. BC Hydro is mindful
that students may have limited experience related to the upcoming construction works but BC Hydro is passionate about
the learning opportunity the Site C Project represents to its RE Team members. Resources are in place to surround
developing members with experienced engineering leadership to promote individual development and act as a springboard
for career development.
The successful candidate will play an integral part acting on behalf of the Owner’s Engineer or Professional-of-Record in the
field, verifying the compliance of contractor constructed works in conformance with contract documents including scope,
quality, and schedule.
- Develop a strong understanding of each contract’s scope/specifications/Issued for Construction Drawings/Inspection and
- Monitoring construction activities on behalf of the BC Hydro’s Professional-of-Record or Owner’s Engineer, to ensure each
contractor’s work activities are completed in conformance with the design/approved work methods.
- Participate in the development of facility documentation such as maintenance instructions.
- Develop an understanding of construction methods/sequencing to assist with proactively anticipating and identifying
- Assist with site visits for Project stakeholders;
- Assist with the development and delivery of presentations to Project stakeholders;
At the end of the co-op term, the students will have excellent first-hand knowledge of the multi-disciplinary, fast paced, large
hydropower construction.
- To qualify as a candidate, individual's must be enrolled and yet to graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in
- Completed a minimum of 2nd year of electrical or mechanical engineering studies at an accredited university.
