Job Overview
The Controller oversees the full financial operations of Eastern Power Solutions (EPS) and its subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance across multi-state and multi-territory operations (U.S., American Samoa, Puerto Rico, CNMI). This role is responsible for financial strategy execution, accounting integrity, internal controls, budgeting, compliance, and timely reporting to executive leadership. The Controller will directly supervise the Accounting Team (Senior Accountant, AP/AR staff, payroll accounting support) and coordinate closely with HR, Operations, Project Management, and the CEO. Candidates must reside in OH, PA, or VA.
· Provide strategic leadership in all financial operations, ensuring alignment with company goals and growth plans.
· Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, payroll accounting, cash management, and financial reporting.
· Develop and implement internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
· Manage multi-entity consolidations and ensure accurate reporting for EPS and all subsidiaries.
· Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with analysis and variance reporting.
· Ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to support decision-making.
· Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements across U.S., American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and CNMI.
· Oversee tax compliance, including federal, state, and territorial obligations, payroll taxes, excise taxes, and business filings.
· Supervise payroll reconciliation across biweekly U.S. payrolls and monthly AS/PR/CNMI payrolls.
· Ensure proper classification of employees (W-2/1099), accurate deduction management, and compliance with local labor laws.
· Coordinate with HR to ensure payroll accuracy and benefits integrity.
· Oversee job costing, labor allocation, project budgets, and financial forecasting for all solar construction projects.
· Ensure accuracy in tracking field labor, subcontractors, shipping/logistics costs, and material allocations.
· Support project managers with timely financial insights.
· Lead annual audits (financial, workers’ compensation, general liability, and compliance).
· Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and insurance brokers.
· Maintain adequate records for all audits and renewals.
· Lead optimization of accounting systems (QuickBooks, AP automation, Paycom integrations).
· Implement best practices for closing cycles, reviews, and reconciliations.
· Drive process improvement initiatives to support growth and scalability.
· Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations.
· Build a strong accounting function with clear roles, accountability, and growth pathways.
· Foster collaboration with operations, HR, payroll, and project teams.
