Wood is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Eastern Canada Operations team, in our St. John’s office.
This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality structural engineering services across industrial, power, and energy projects. You will lead and execute structural design analyses, prepare technical documentation, and support the full project lifecycle—from concept through detailed design and construction.

- Perform structural calculations, design, design checks, and drawing reviews from concept through detailed engineering
- Analyze designs for constructability, material efficiency, functionality, and practicality
- Apply Canadian codes and standards for concrete, steel, and wood structures
- Review, check, and approve construction and shop drawings
- Monitor design changes and assess impacts on cost and schedule
- Ensure all engineering deliverables meet project requirements, codes, and internal quality standards
- Seal engineering drawings and documents as required by provincial regulations
- Provide technical assistance during construction, including site clarification and problem resolution
- Conduct periodic site visits to verify design intent and regulatory compliance
- Oversee site-related engineering tasks and support construction planning efforts
- Plan, organize, and coordinate your own work as well as design/drafting resources assigned to projects
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including Mechanical, Process, Materials Handling, Civil, Architectural, Electrical, and Instrumentation
- Work with project team members in Canada and other global Wood execution offices
- Mentor and coach junior engineers and designers
- Support development of technical proposals and capital cost estimates
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and vendors

- Currently authorized to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering from a recognized university
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible for registration
- 5 + years of experience in Power Utility, Mining, Industrial, or Renewable Energy projects (asset)- Proven site experience supporting construction and field engineering activities
- Experience preparing proposals and developing capital cost estimates for various project phases
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a schedule‑ and cost‑driven environment
- Advanced proficiency with STAAD.Pro and experience with Mathcad or Excel, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and MS Office
- Solid understanding of the National Building Code of Canada, CSA Standards, and provincial building codes across Eastern Canada
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality deliverables
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Client‑focused, self‑driven, and experienced in leading designers and engineers on multidiscipline capital projects
