Sheet Metal Lead

The Sheet Metal Lead Technician is responsible for supervising and performing insulation and sheet metal maintenance tasks on tanks, piping, and other industrial equipment. The Lead Technician oversees crews, ensures work quality, maintains compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and supports project scheduling, material mobilization, and task documentation in remote and industrial environments.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

- Lead and supervise a team of Sheet Metal / Blanket Technicians, ensuring all tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans.

- Fabricate, install, and maintain various insulation systems on tanks, vessels, piping, and other equipment.

- Fabricate or modify prefabricated insulation kits for specialized applications, including tanks, valves, pipe fittings, and rotating equipment.

- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment, including bending brakes, band saws, banding tools, grinders, mag drills, and portable hand tools.

- Assist in loading, unloading, and mobilization of materials and equipment, ensuring proper load securement.

- Schedule tasks and coordinate crew activities to meet project deadlines.

- Maintain 100% “Safety Standards and Accountability” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:

- Maintain compliance with the required HSE Training.

- Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.

- Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly and willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident.

- Performs work in strict compliance with permitting requirements, Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) Standards and other compliance-oriented directives.

- Participating in safety meetings, working safely, and maintaining a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI Industrial Services.

- Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.

- Demonstrate and promote safe work practices by participating in JSA reviews, pre-job walkdowns and safety START card preparations covering work activities and materials required by the company and the client.

- Promote and participate in Safety Programs.

- Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Strong leadership and crew management skills.

- Knowledge of insulation materials, supports, moisture barriers, and protective jackets commonly used on tanks and piping.

- Understanding of installation and repair methods for insulation systems, including lagging and banding techniques.

- Ability to read and interpret project drawings and specifications and perform basic mathematical calculations.

- Skilled in using hand tools and power tools relevant to insulation and sheet metal work.

- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in remote and industrial environments.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

- Must be 18 years old

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Valid driver's license

- NSTC card

- 1 – 2 years of insulation supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

- Prior North Slope or remote industrial site experience.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead crews effectively in small or large job sites.

- Experience training and mentoring industrial crews in insulation and sheet metal work

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.

Position may involve exposure to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors. This position may involve working with potentially hazardous materials and waste.

A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard. FCE LEVEL #3

- MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.

- LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.

- HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.

- VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.

- RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurements will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
