The Security & Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining a secure, compliant, and safe working environment of Golden Vertex Corp personnel, assets, equipment and property at our open-pit mining operation. This role combines traditional security duties with essential safety program support, including employee access control, safety compliance checks, and execution of site-wide health and safety procedures. The specialist acts as a first point of contact for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring that all personnel entering the site meet regulatory and company requirements. All other duties as assigned.
- Access Control & Sign-In Management
- Monitor and manage entry and exit of employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Verify credentials, training certifications, and authorization to access specific areas.
- Maintain accurate daily logbooks, sign-in sheets, and electronic records.
- Patrol & Surveillance
- Conduct routine patrols of property, facilities, and equipment to detect security or safety hazards.
- Monitor cameras, alarms, and gate systems; respond promptly to alerts or irregular activity.
- Report suspicious activity, policy violations, or unauthorized personnel to supervisory staff.
- Incident Response
- Assist with emergency response efforts including site evacuations, medical emergencies, and environmental events.
- Secure incident scenes until management or EMS personnel arrive.
- Personal Protective Equipment Compliance
- Perform fit testing for respirators
- Maintain records of PPE issuance, fit-test results, and expiration dates.
- Ensure personnel are equipped with proper PPE upon entering work areas.
- Inspection & Compliance Monitoring
- Conduct routine inspections of first aid kits, AED’s, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, spill kits, and other emergency equipment.
- Document inspection results, maintain service schedules, and coordinate replacements or repairs.
- Drug & Alcohol Testing
- Administer or coordinate pre-access, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-incident drug and alcohol tests in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain chain-of-custody documentation and ensure confidentiality of testing records.
- Training & Safety Support
- Assist with safety orientations for new employees or contractors.
- Support the team in conducting toolbox talks, safety drills, and regulatory training sessions.
- Maintain accurate logs of safety inspections, security incidents, drug/alcohol test results, respirator fit tests, and visitor access.
- Prepare reports for mine management and regulatory agencies as required.
- Ensure all documentation complies with MSHA and company standards.
- High school diploma or GED required; additional safety or security certifications preferred.
- Experience in industrial, mining, or construction security/safety roles highly desirable.
- Familiarity with MSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
- Training or certification in drug/alcohol testing, respirator fit testing, or first aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and adverse weather.
- Rotating or fixed shifts, including nights, weekends, or holidays depending on site needs.
- Work may involve standing for long periods, walking long distances, and responding to emergencies.
