Job Overview
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Project Leader II.
Reporting to the Manager Projects, this position is responsible for leading and managing specialized, complex projects that support business objectives, ensuring employee accountability and ownership through effective project leadership from concept through design, construction, and commissioning.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage and control specialized, complex projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring alignment with business requirements.
- Lead all project phases: design, construction, installation, integration, and field work.
- Apply approved project management processes, including phase-gating, scope, schedule, cost, change control, estimating, communications, reporting, and risk management.
- Oversee engineering, procurement, and construction to achieve safety, quality, budget, and schedule targets.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to project staff, fostering accountability and a high-performance team environment.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Implement and administer project safety and quality assurance programs.
- Prepare detailed project management plans, work breakdown structures, estimates, schedules, and reports.
- Resolve project issues, manage changes, and ensure successful project delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, applied sciences, business administration, economics, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of physics, engineering principles, mathematics, chemistry, and business/economic fundamentals as they relate to industrial and power generation projects.
- Solid understanding of project management principles and all major project phases (Identification, Initiation, Definition, Execution, Close-out).
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in project management within heavy industry or power generation.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage cross-functional relationships.
- Experience with environmental protection, problem-solving, and continuous improvement in a project setting.
- Prior experience with turbines and/or generators is considered an asset.
