Position Overview
Southland Steel Fabricators is seeking a results-driven Production Manager to oversee all fabrication and production activities across multiple shifts at our Greensburg facility. This leadership role is accountable for executing the fabrication schedule, maintaining efficient and safe operations, leading a high-performing team, and ensuring the successful delivery of customer projects.
The Production Manager will work closely with the Director of Operations and coordinate daily with other key departments—including Project Management, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Maintenance—to ensure schedule adherence, workfront readiness, and consistent plant performance. A critical part of this role is fostering a culture of accountability, urgency, and teamwork across the shop floor. The Production Manager sets the tone for safety, discipline, and pride in craftsmanship while actively promoting Southland’s core values: Work Safe – Work Smart – Work Hard .
This position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to lead others by example while holding the team to high standards of performance, communication, and respect.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Execution
- Lead all production activities across multiple shifts, ensuring execution of the weekly fabrication schedule.
- Coordinate with Maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and support production continuity.
- Oversee daily use of workfronts, shop capacity, and labor to maximize throughput and meet delivery goals.
- Identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks in coordination with foremen and area leads.
- Manage a team of production foremen across various areas of the facility (e.g., cutting, fitting, welding, finishing).
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels across all shifts; monitor workforce requirements versus actual headcount.
- Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and performance reviews for hourly production staff.
- Address disciplinary issues in coordination with HR, ensuring alignment with company policy.
- Build a team-oriented environment with a focus on accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Project Management, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance to maintain production readiness and resolve job-specific challenges.
- Ensure alignment of labor, materials, and equipment with project needs.
- Participate in weekly production meetings, providing detailed updates on progress, risks, and required corrective actions.
- Maintain daily coordination with QA (which reports to the Director of Operations) to support inspection readiness and code compliance.
- Provide weekly production metrics and insights including:
- Turnover by Department
- Manpower Required vs Hired
- Available Workfronts vs. Execution
- Near-Term Shop Schedule and Readiness
- Overtime vs Straight-time
- Use KPI data to drive proactive planning and process improvements.
- Utilize and ensure accurate input into Southland’s custom production tracking tools, along with Tekla and Steel Projects software.
- Train foremen and crew leads to maintain real-time data entry for labor hours, completion status, and productivity tracking.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing or structural steel fabrication, with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to AWS D1.1 required.
- Deep understanding of steel fabrication workflows and shop management best practices.
- Experience leading multi-shift operations and managing large, diverse teams in a job-shop environment.
- Strong coordination skills and ability to work across functions to meet operational targets.
- Familiarity with Tekla, Steel Projects, and production planning systems preferred.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and team development skills.

Qualifications
