Overview: Production Manager
The Production Manager will provide leadership and direction to a team of Production Managers across 2-Shifts to ensure Client’s Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Key KPI’s are achieved across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity. The Production Manager will plan and oversee production output and ensure capacity is in place to meet customer demand.
- As a Key member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Production Manager will collaborate with peers to promote a culture of continuous improvement down to our frontline team-members routed in Safety & Stability, while working to support Client’s development into a world-class manufacturing organization.
- Oversee a group Production Area Managers across Welding, Machine Shop, Paint, and Assembly responsible for delivering shift-level schedule adherence, delivery, and productivity.
- Ensure proper spans of control are in place from Production Managers, Group Leaders, and Team Leaders enable a culture of continuous improvement across all team-members.
- Foster an environment where Leaders are Teachers continuously looking for ways to implement and improve standardized work; continuing to develop capabilities of Production Managers, Group Leaders, and Team Leaders to drive problem solving and continuous improvement to the shop-floor team members.
- Develop a culture of “Stop, Call, Wait” through the Production Team and drive a sense of urgency to quickly respond to abnormalities, implementing countermeasures while working to address Root-Cause of Activities.
- Develop a Skills Matrix to create flexible workforce and training plans for employees. Partner with Production Managers and HR to ensure proper training procedures are in place for new hires to ensure successful onboarding.
- Ensure shift-by-shift production targets are achieved; work closely with Production Schedulers to define daily plans, and Production Managers to ensure staffing in place to meet daily goals while minimizing overtime.
- Develop tools and systems to track and share daily / weekly capacity availability (hours) by work center; collaborate with the Scheduling Team to ensure targets are set to meet delivery and productivity metrics.
- Maintain and evaluate performance against Key KPI’s in areas of responsibility; ensure action plan and accountabilities are in place to meet stated goals.
- Ensure standardized work is in place across the facility, with accurate cycle times maintained in SAP to ensure capacity, scheduling, and cost targets are achieved across the facility.
- Ensure Production Managers and Group Leaders are auditing standard work, ensure team members’ adherence to the standard to avoid workarounds.
- Promote Visual Factory, enabling easy abnormality detection; ensure 5S across the facility as a means of supporting visual management and promotion of safe workplace.
- Lead Daily Gemba Walk across the business; ensure area boards are maintained and up-to-date, with key issues identified, owners and due-dates assigned and followed up on.
- Work closely with Sr Manager, Manufacturing Engineering and the Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment is maintained and performing to standard.
- Ensure Quality to Customer is never compromised; collaborate with the Plant Quality Manager to build a culture of Quality across the operation.
- Working closely with the Sr. Manager, Planning & Inventory Control and the Demand Planner, evaluate the capacity and ability to meet the expected sales forecast.
- Maintain the Staffing Budget for each Production Department, working closely with Production Managers to ensure staffing plans are in place to support forecasted sales growth. Own development & management of annual staffing budgets, working with VP of Manufacturing Operations.
- Own and maintain the plant capacity model; update the capacity model as new equipment and/or operational improvements are identified. Share improvements with the Demand Planner on a monthly basis.
- Evaluate Capacity in 3-month, 6-month and 12+ month buckets. Partner with the Sr. Manager, Manufacturing Engineer to ensure plans are in place to address any capacity constrained areas before impacting customer spanning both Process Improvements & Capital Investments- Partners with Plant Leadership team to drive the implementation of Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing change program across the production operation. Monitor, report and communicate progress.
- Assesses cost effectiveness and feasibility of manufacturing processes; makes and implements recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency working together plant leadership team.
- Identify, train and coach in lean concepts. Ensure Production Team Members all are looking for ways of making small, incremental improvements to operations.
- Responsible for assembly, machining, and welding operations.
- 5+ years of experience as a Production Manager with proven success in manufacturing leadership.- Directly manage 4 Production Group Leaders, providing oversight, coaching, and performance reviews.
- Conduct daily meetings with direct reports; review production reports to ensure alignment with goals.
- Develop and execute production plans to meet organizational targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams; SAP and ERP knowledge strongly preferred.
- Automotive industry background strongly preferred, as the organization aligns its practices with Toyota Production Systems (TPS).
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop teams.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software to prepare budgets, reports, and records.
Knowledge of SAP and ERP systems is a strong plus.
- Experience with Toyota Production System (TPS) principles.
- Lean Manufacturing experience.
- Six Sigma certification (strong plus).
- Advanced knowledge of SAP (preferred).
