About This Job

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations is looking for a Production Manager to join their team. This position will be located at our manufacturing facility. The Production Manager is responsible for daily oversight and management for the assembly of Factory Built Substations (FBS). He/she will lead a team of approximately 25-35 personnel, including Managers, Team Leads, Welders, and Assembly Technicians. He/she will be responsible for the successful production of approximately 100-180 structures. The Production Manager holds a critical leadership role focused on ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining product quality, and meeting delivery deadlines. The Production Manager works closely with his/her Managers, Supervisors, and/or Team Leads to meet the aforementioned objectives. This person helps his/her Managers, Supervisors, and Team Leads motivate the workforce, encouraging teamwork to focus on delivering world class solutions to our customers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develop daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.

- Post live schedules for production support personnel to see.

- Coordinate workflow to meet production targets and deadlines.

- Manage and oversee weekly production meetings with his/her direct reports and other Managers.

- Brief key stakeholders with progress updates on a weekly basis or more frequently if necessary.

- Optimize resource allocation (labor, materials, equipment, etc.).

- Analyze production capacity against forecasted demand.

- Lead, train, and evaluate production staff.

- Work with upper Management and Talent / HR in identifying recruiting, staffing, and training needs.

- Participate in the interviewing and hiring of new team members.

- Motivate, organize, and encourage teamwork within the workforce and provide a clear sense of direction and focus to the team.

- Monitor and control production costs to stay within budget.

- Identify areas to reduce waste and improve cost-efficiency.

- Auditing and analyzing existing processes and identifying areas for improvement to maximize efficiency and productivity while minimizing waste and costs.

- Review monthly income statements to track against budgeted targets.

- Work with upper Management to set budgets for department.

- Generate and present production reports (KPIs, throughput, output, downtime, etc.).

- Communicate with upper Management about production goals and issues.

- Use data for decision making and performance improvements.

- Work with Project Managers and other internal customers to monitor the quality of service and work to continually improve relationships.

- Work with Engineering, Design Teams, R&D to ensure manufacturability of product.

- Work with and coordinate with Procurement, Expediting, and Project Management to ensure timely availability of materials.

- Manage the Assembly and Welding Teams to ensure safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Is responsible for ensuring that housekeeping and facility cleanliness are top priorities.

- Is responsible for the quality of the Factory Built offerings. Works with the Quality Manager closely for continuous improvement initiatives.

- Investigate production issues (ex. bottlenecks, delays, defects, mistakes)

- Gather feedback from team and present continuous improvement initiatives to management.

- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and/or automation tools to improve efficiency.

- Justify capital expenditures for new equipment or upgrades requested by his or herself.

- Monitor company owned or rented equipment and maintenance. Updates a status report and communicates to the upper management any issues.

- Resolve major issues that Managers and Sr. Production Leads cannot.

- Hold monthly or quarterly 1-on-1’s with direct reports.

- Support Proposal Department with pricing for FBS projects.

- Attend Order Acceptance and/or Project Kick-off meetings.

- Support customer audits and/or visits.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:

- Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.

- Experience with ERP/MES systems.

- Strong working knowledge of projection metrics and data analytics preferred.

- Understanding of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or other process improvement techniques and methodologies (certification preferred).

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in manufacturing or production environments or substation experience with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

- Proven experience managing production teams and implementing lean manufacturing or continuous improvement strategies.

- Heavy project management experience preferred.

- Experience in Production and Inventory Management preferred.

- Familiarity with safety, quality control, and regulatory standards in manufacturing.


CERTIFICATIONS (PREFERRED):

- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt

- Project Management Professional (PMP)

- Certified Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)
