Brief Description
CAMS is seeking a
Plant Engineerfor the New Haven Harbor Station located in New Haven, CT. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Plant Engineer will provide engineering expertise, operations and maintenance support, contractor coordination, and project management. This role serves as a key technical resource for plant personnel, helping ensure the facility operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. The selected candidate will also be responsible for preparing various reports to support ongoing business needs.
New Haven Harbor Station is a 453-MW facility in New Haven, CT, fueled by #6 fuel oil and natural gas, and comprised of a single conventional steam unit. New Haven Peaking is a 144-MW facility, also utilizing ULSK and natural gas, consisting of three LM6000 simple-cycle combustion turbines co-located on the New Haven Harbor Station property.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Engineer, design, and justify plant modifications and performance improvements.
- Make sound, cost-effective engineering decisions that ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and support repairs for complex electrical and mechanical issues, coordinating with site personnel, vendors, and contractors as needed.
- Assess spare parts requirements and recommend inventory levels.
- Develop equipment and material specifications to support facility projects.
- Develop, implement, and manage the preventive and condition-based maintenance (PM/CBM) program.
- Schedule, coordinate, and oversee contractors and vendors for maintenance activities, upgrades, and outage work.
- Provide guidance, oversight, and direction to plant personnel as required.
- Develop and maintain tools for plant performance and efficiency analysis, and report findings to Plant Management.
- Create and maintain heat-rate curves and load-forecasting tools to support unit bidding strategies.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all GADS entries.
- Maintain the technical library and drawing files to ensure reference materials are current and accessible.
- Prepare capital project budgets and manage expenditures throughout project execution.
- Support the development of work scopes for scheduled and unscheduled outages.
- Execute complex projects and assignments independently.
- Develop repair plans for engines and major components undergoing overhaul.
- Administer historical data retrieval systems and associated reporting.
- Maintain site-level NERC compliance.
- Provide after-hours support and perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance is required.
- Strong knowledge of steam power technologies is preferred.
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of fossil-fueled boilers, steam turbines, generators, combustion turbines, and electronic/pneumatic control and monitoring systems.
- Familiarity with Work Management systems.
- Proficiency with personal computers, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with OSI PI software.
- Demonstrated ability in effective communication, analytical thinking, attention to detail, decision-making, and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to possess or obtain a TWIC card.
- Experience with NERC Medium Impact & CIP requirements.
- Consistently maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.
