- The Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining short to medium-term (0–12 month) mine plans and schedules to support safe and efficient production. The role focuses on optimizing open pit operations, improving planning accuracy, and supporting operational performance through data-driven decision-making.
- The incumbent will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supports site-based open pit mining operations
- Responsible for short-term planning, scheduling, and reporting deliverables
- Supervises 2 direct reports plus contractors
- Works closely with operations, geology, geotechnical, and corporate teams
- Primarily site-based with collaboration across departments
- Develop and maintain 0–12 month mine plans aligned with operational targets
- Monitor and reconcile actual performance against plan; adjust forecasts accordingly
- Optimize mine design, scheduling, grade control, and minimize dilution
- Review and improve drill and blast designs to optimize fragmentation
- Track and report KPIs including production rates, stripping ratios, and ore delivery
- Prepare monthly and weekly plans, reports, and end-of-month reconciliations
- Support annual budgeting and business planning processes
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Promote and maintain high safety standards and actively participate in safety initiatives
- Collaborate with geotechnical and geology teams to incorporate guidance into plans
- Provide direction to contract miners to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Manage consultants and contractors on engineering-related projects
- Contribute to engineering studies and improvement projects
- Present plans and results to site leadership and stakeholders
- Mentor and coach Mine Technologists and junior personnel
- Provide support for surveying and sampling as required
- Participate in continuous improvement and innovation initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for registration with PEO
- 0–3 years of experience in an open pit mining environment
- Experience with mine planning and scheduling practices preferred
- Experience with Hexagon mining software (e.g., MinePlan) considered an asset
- Strong understanding of open pit mining operations and mine design
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of mineral economics and cash flow modeling is an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to evaluate and optimize mine plans using data and performance metrics
