The Site Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for working with sites to provide strategic mine planning support across multiple operations and projects. This role focuses on developing life-of-mine plans, evaluating project economics and ensuring alignment with business objectives, sustainability goals, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while maximizing the assets’ economic value.
Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following

- Working with sites, develop and maintain corporate-level Life-of-Mine (LOM) plans for multiple assets and projects.
- Lead or contribute to internal Scoping, Pre-Feasibility, and Feasibility Studies for new site expansions.
- Conduct complex economic trade-off studies (underground design changes, automation feasibility, haulage system evaluations, or alternative mining methods).
- Perform strategic mine optimization, phase design, and sequencing for long-term planning.
- Conduct economic evaluations, sensitivity analyses, and scenario planning with reporting and analytics to support investment decisions.
- Collaborate with site-based planning teams, geology, and operations to ensure consistency and integration of plans.
- Develop and implement standardized mine planning procedures, software workflows (eg., Deswik, Vulcan), and reporting templates across all sites.
- Provide technical guidance and governance for mine planning standards across the organization.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and reserve reporting at the corporate level.
- Prepare presentations and reports for senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for portfolio optimization and cost reduction.
- Assist with reserve estimation and ensuring compliance with industry reporting standards (e.g., SEC S-K 1300).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering. Advanced degree or MBA preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years in mine engineering, with a minimum of 5+ years in detailed mine planning, with a focus on long-term strategy and at least 3 years in a corporate or multi-site role.- Software Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of applications and technical tools, especially Excel and Power BI. Skilled in AutoCAD and have demonstrated expertise in planning tools (e.g., Deswik or similar) as well as an understanding and experience with economic modeling.
- Strong understanding of underground mining methods, with experience in room and pillar method preferred, both conventional and mechanical mining.
- Strong understanding of the integration of long-term planning with mid- and short-term planning in mining.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel 30%-50%
- Experience in multi-site planning and portfolio optimization.
- Experience with financial modeling and project economics with application in mine planning.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to successfully influence and collaborate with diverse teams across regions.
- Work includes office and site field time; may include exposure to temperature/humidity extremes, climbing stairs, and required PPE; ability to work shift schedules when needed.
