Reporting to the General Manager, the Manager – Tailings & Water is a senior technical leader responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and oversight of all tailings and water-related systems and infrastructure at the Blackwater Mine. This role ensures regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and environmental stewardship across the mine’s lifecycle. The manager leads a multidisciplinary team and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to optimize water use, manage risks, and support sustainable development. This position plays a key role in sustaining day to day operations as well as planning for ongoing and incoming future expansions.

Location: Blackwater Mine Site

Schedule: Three (3) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities Safety Leadership and Compliance

- Champion a strong safety culture through visible felt leadership and ensuring compliance with BW Gold’s safety systems and BC mining and environmental legislation.

- Ensure compliance with all permit conditions, assist with dam safety inspections, coordinate and facilitate ITRB reviews and reporting.


Strategic Leadership & Planning

- Lead the development and execution of the Integrated Water Management Plan (IWMP) for the site.

- Oversee long-term water resource planning aligned with mine development, closure, and reclamation strategies.

- Provide strategic input into mine design, tailings management, and infrastructure projects from a water perspective.


Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement

- Ensure full compliance with provincial and federal water regulations, permits, and reporting requirements.

- Represent the company in regulatory discussions, audits, and community consultations related to water.

- Engage with Indigenous communities and local stakeholders on water-related matters and sustainability initiatives.


Technical Oversight

- Manage hydrological and hydrogeological assessments, water balance modeling, and water quality monitoring programs.

- Oversee the design, operation, and optimization of water treatment facilities and conveyance systems.

- Review and approve technical reports, modeling outputs, and engineering designs related to water infrastructure.


Team & Project Management

- Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts, technicians, consultants and contractors.

- Manage budgets, schedules, and contracts for water-related projects and services.

- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with environmental, engineering, operations, and tailings teams.


Risk Management & Sustainability

- Conduct risk assessments and ensure hazard identification, mitigation strategies and safety controls for TSFs and water systems.

- Identify and mitigate risks related to water availability, quality, and environmental impact.

- Promote water conservation, reuse, and innovative technologies to reduce environmental footprint.

- Oversee crisis response planning and emergency preparedness and support incident investigations involving water systems and tailings structures.

- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and operations, maintenance and surveillance (OMS) manuals and ensure site adherence.


Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mining, civil, geotechnical or environmental engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology or related field.

- Registered or eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist in British Columbia is preferred.

- 10+ years of progressive experience in dam construction and tailings and water resource management, within the mining industry. - 5+ years of proven leadership experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams and complex projects.

- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance within mining and tailings operations, tailings facility and water governance frameworks, and permitting.

- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and technical writing skills.

- Experience conducting tailings facility safety inspections, and leading risk assessments and emergency preparedness planning.

- Technical expertise in TSF stability analysis, soil/rock mechanics, hydrology geotechnical engineering.


Skills

- Proficiency in water modeling software (e.g., GoldSim, HEC-HMS), GIS, and data analysis tools.

- Proficiency in geotechnical instrumentation and data interpretation.

- Ability to work at a remote location camp on a rotational schedule.

- Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team

- Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift

- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
