We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Intermediate Accountant / Payroll Administrator to join our finance and administration team. This full-time position plays a vital role in supporting the Divisional Accountant, with responsibilities across day-to-day accounting tasks, payroll processing, and administrative finance duties.
About the Role
As the Intermediate Accountant / Payroll Administrator, you’ll play a key support role within our finance and administration team, assisting with payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and day-to-day financial operations. This position is ideal for someone early in their accounting career who’s eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. You’ll work closely with the Divisional Accountant and other departments to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and integrity in all financial processes.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing, including timesheet verification and payroll data entry
•Support preparation of invoices, expense claims, accounts payable, and receivable entries
•Maintain accurate financial records, digital filing, and document organization
•Help reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and vendor accounts
•Process employee reimbursements and travel claims
•Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and financial data
•Respond to payroll-related questions and provide administrative finance support to staff and supervisors
•Provide administrative support to the Divisional Accountant and assist with reporting and analysis as required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
•Must be qualified and eligible to work in Canada
•Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
•2-3 years’ experience with payroll processing and accounting systems (QuickBooks, ADP, or similar) is an asset
•Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting principles
•Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
•Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills
•Prior experience in a resource sector or project-based business is an asset
Work Conditions:
•Based out of Rugged Edge Headquarters in beautiful Smithers, BC.
•Typically, Monday to Friday, standard office hours with some flexibility required around payroll deadlines.
