Job Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, strategic HR Manager to lead all aspects of human resources for our growing waste management company of approximately 50 employees. This role will support day-to-day HR operations, ensure compliance with labor laws and safety standards, manage talent acquisition and retention efforts, and help build a positive, values-driven workplace culture.
The ideal candidate thrives in a small-business environment, wears multiple hats, and understands the unique needs of a blue-collar workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
•Manage the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to offboarding
•Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures tailored to the waste management industry
•Administer compensation, benefits, and leave programs
•Maintain HR records and employee files in compliance with legal requirements
•Provide support and coaching to managers and employees on performance, conduct, and career development
•Handle employee relations issues, investigations, and conflict resolution in a fair and timely manner
•Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other relevant regulatory requirements
•Partner with operations leadership on workforce planning, scheduling, and retention strategies
•Oversee safety and training programs to ensure a safe working environment
•Coordinate with payroll and accounting on employee compensation and reporting
•Foster a respectful, inclusive, and productive work culture
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
•3+ years of HR experience, preferably in an industrial or blue-collar environment
•Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices, including OSHA compliance
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust at all levels
•Proven experience handling sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism
•Proficiency in HR systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
•HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR)
•Experience working in the waste management, logistics, or environmental services industries
•Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Work Environment:
•Office setting with occasional visits to operational sites (e.g., waste collection yards, transfer stations)
•Must be comfortable working closely with drivers, operators, and field teams
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
