The HSE Specialist is responsible for leading and supporting health, safety, and environmental programs at the manufacturing facility. This role serves as the primary on-site subject matter expert for OSHA compliance, incident management, and safety training, and owns the end-to-end management of workers’ compensation claims in close partnership with Human Resources. The HSE Specialist provides oversight and direction to the Safety Assistant and plays a key role in promoting a proactive, compliant, and safety-focused workplace culture.
- Implement, maintain, and support facility health, safety, and environmental programs in compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations
- Interpret OSHA standards and company safety policies and apply them to daily operations
- Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses
- Maintain and update safety policies, procedures, and documentation
Incident Management & Workers’ Compensation (Ownership Role)
- Serve as the primary owner of all workers’ compensation claims, including injury reporting, investigation, documentation, and claim coordination
- Lead or oversee incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis
- Coordinate medical treatment, provider communication, and claim documentation
- Work closely with Human Resources to provide updates on claim status, restrictions, and return-to-work (RTW) eligibility
- Support RTW and light-duty coordination in collaboration with HR and Operations
- Track injury trends and recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Develop, conduct, and oversee safety training, new hire orientations, and toolbox talks
- Ensure safety training compliance for employees and contractors
- Deliver and support bilingual safety training in English and Spanish
- Promote employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement related to safety
- Provide daily guidance, task prioritization, and support to the Safety Assistant
- Review safety inspections, reports, and documentation completed by the Safety Assistant
- Support coaching and professional development of the Safety Assistant
- Oversee PPE standards, inventory processes, and vendor coordination
- Ensure proper chemical handling, labeling, storage, and SDS documentation
- Support environmental compliance activities, including waste handling and disposal
- Serve as a primary point of contact for safety vendors, service providers, and auditors
- Prepare for and participate in internal, customer, and regulatory audits
- Maintain accurate safety metrics, OSHA logs, and compliance records
- Analyze safety data and trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Support leadership with safety-related reporting and recommendations
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in an HSE, safety, or compliance role in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards
- Demonstrated experience managing workers’ compensation claims
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
- OSHA 30-hour General Industry certification
- First Aid / CPR certification
- Experience supporting internal or external safety audits
- Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations
- Regular walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs
- Ability to wear required PPE and comply with all safety protocols
