Copeland is seeking a driven and strategic Director of Internal Communications to lead enterprise-wide communication initiatives that engage employees, reinforce our culture, and align with business priorities. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, ensuring that internal messaging is clear, compelling, and consistent across all levels of the organization.
The Director will oversee internal communication channels, develop strategies that foster transparency and inclusion, and drive engagement during times of change. This position requires a blend of strategic vision, storytelling expertise, and operational excellence, with a strong focus on measurement and continuous improvement.
As the Global Internal Communications Director, you will focus on:
Strategic Alignment & Messaging
- Develop and implement an internal communications strategy that aligns with Copeland’s mission, vision, and business objectives
- Translate complex business strategies, priorities, and performance updates into clear, engaging messages for employees at all levels
- Partner with senior leadership and functional teams to ensure consistent messaging across global regions and business units
- Create frameworks and guidelines for internal messaging to maintain clarity and brand voice
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executives, providing counsel on communication approaches for key initiatives and organizational changes
- Design and execute communication plans for major transformations, including restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and new enterprise programs
- Prepare leadership for high-impact communications through coaching, talking points, and presentation support
- Ensure timely, transparent, and empathetic messaging during periods of uncertainty or crisis
- Drive initiatives that strengthen Copeland’s culture and values through storytelling, recognition programs, and employee engagement campaigns
- Develop content that amplifies employee voices and showcases achievements, fostering a sense of belonging and pride
- Implement listening strategies such as pulse surveys, feedback loops, and town halls to capture employee sentiment and inform communication plans
- Partner with HR teams to ensure communications reflect inclusivity and support engagement goals
- Oversee all internal communication channels, including email, intranet, digital signage, and live/virtual events, ensuring optimal reach and engagement
- Establish editorial calendars and governance for internal content to maintain consistency and timeliness
- Leverage analytics to monitor channel performance, engagement metrics, and message effectiveness; provide regular reporting to leadership
- Continuously refine communication strategies based on data insights and employee feedback to improve impact and relevance
- Recruit, develop, and retain top internal communications talent, ensuring the team has the skills and capabilities to deliver strategic, impactful communications across the organization
- Set clear goals and performance metrics for the communications team that support enterprise priorities
- Provide coaching, feedback, and career development opportunities to team members
- Encourage continuous learning and adoption of new tools, technologies, and approaches to enhance communication effectiveness and employee engagement
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or related roles- Proven ability to develop and execute communication strategies that drive engagement and alignment
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex topics
- Experience managing communication during organizational change and transformation
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and analytics for measuring engagement
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to partner effectively with senior leaders
- Ability to travel up to 20% domestically
- Experience in a global, matrixed organization
- Familiarity with change management principles and employee engagement strategies
- Strong business acumen and ability to connect communication strategies to business outcomes
- Demonstrated success in leveraging data and insights to optimize communication effectiveness

Collaboration First Hybrid Work Arrangements
This role is hybrid eligible with the requirement to be in office at least three days per week. Colleagues are expected to demonstrate a collaboration first mindset, which is the understanding that teams will work together in-person and colleagues should be flexible to adjust their hybrid days based on business needs. You will have an opportunity to work with your team and leader to determine when you should be in office to drive meaningful connections and to best serve our customers.
