GMP is seeking an energetic, innovative and dedicated GIS intern this summer in either their Colchester or Rutland locations. This position is a great opportunity for a technically oriented student to gain practical and real world working experience in the electric utility industry. By the end of the internship, the student will have acquired knowledge on electrical distribution circuits, communication, various electrical equipment, electric distribution protection concepts, and more importantly, they will have learned how to work as part of a team across various business units.
Successful candidates will apply knowledge gained from their GIS coursework, in order to learn the fundamentals of GMP's electrical system. This position requires candidates to quickly learn the innovative tools and software used by GMP for its GIS and operating efforts and work extensively with engineering and field personnel to efficiently perform the tasks.
The GIS intern will be responsible for verifying selected data elements across the GIS system and distribution network models.
- Work under the guidance of the GIS team on ongoing data integrity clean up
- Identify and fix electric utility data and design issues in GIS
- Acquire and validate data
- Work with others to help with field review on issues found
- Interest in pursuing a career in GIS or distribution design work
- Strong computer skills
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software is desirable
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks, while also collaborating effectively with a team
- Valid Driver's license with a record suitable for insurability
