The Engineering GIS Intern supports the Engineering GIS team, by performing essential QA/QC and data editing functions for electric and gas infrastructure within the organization’s GIS systems. The Intern helps ensure that spatial data is properly organized, accurate, and ready for use by internal and external stakeholders.
This role provides significant professional development opportunities. Including experience with enterprise level GIS platforms, utility specific data models, and applied engineering workflows. Providing meaningful exposure to technical and operational aspects of utility GIS.
- Evaluates designs for data accuracy and model functionality before publishing data for internal and external users.
- Modify original designs to match as-built conditions, updating data within the GIS data models.
- Work with various internal departments and external entities to perform data maintenance and change requests.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control checks to verify the validity and accuracy of the GIS data model.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with established safety rules, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Adhere to information security policies and report any suspected security incidents.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
- Currently pursuing GIS, Geography or related degree plan.
- In lieu of degree, equivalent professional GIS experience may be accepted.
- Experience with ESRI software through coursework, projects, or prior work.
- Certified in ESRI software and/or other training related to GIS.
- Understanding of basic GIS principles and practices.
- Ability to enter data quickly, correctly, and efficiently.
- Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks at one time.
- Ability to follow rules in employee handbook.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated, take ownership of job responsibilities, and be proactive in seeking solutions for the department.
