A fleet mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs a variety of vehicles within an organization’s fleet, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. Responsibilities typically include diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine preventative maintenance, completing repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, and hydraulic systems, and keeping detailed service records. Fleet mechanics also help ensure compliance with safety standards and minimize vehicle downtime.
Performs basic mechanical duties by diagnosing problems by using diagnostic scanners and test equipment to identify the problem and replacing them with new parts or repairing old parts as needed. Performs routine maintenance for equipment and vehicle fleet; ensuring that machines perform at desired level; performing general maintenance; changing oil; and changing fuses and lights. Troubleshoot and fix mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on diverse vehicles (gas/diesel/electric.) Conduct welding repairs as needed. Performs routine data entry regarding time, vehicle repairs, mileage, parts, and cost. Manage Parts and supplies for the shop, ready to respond to roadside service calls and perform emergency repairs. Repair and inspect tires; determining whether to replace or repair tire; and placing patches on tire holes as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have or acquire necessary hand tools
- Basic computer skills Knowledge of gas and diesel engines
- Knowledge of DC electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques
- Ability to work alone and respond to customer requests in a timely manner.
- Valid Texas Class A CDL driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Vehicle Inspection License
- Ability to read electric and hydraulic schematics
The employee will be required to work in a shop setting with occasional field work. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting up to 100 pounds, fine dexterity, foot controls (driving), and vision, hearing and talking. Working conditions may involve computer work, sitting at desk, and occasional driving. Post job offer physical, driving record, background check and drug screen required.
