The Controller will manage the financial operations of the organization, including managing relevant accounting functions, preparing financial reports, identifying and implementing internal controls, best practices, oversight of tax compliance and tax planning, and providing financial insights to guide the business. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, the Controller will assist in the leadership of the Finance and Accounting function of the organization and will have a key role in assessing and managing the financial state of the Company.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limed to the following:
Financial Reporting:
•Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) in accordance with appropriate accounting standards and banking regulations as needed.
•Ensure compliance with appropriate accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
•Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting package for internal and external use.
Accounting Operations:
•Manage the accounting department, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
•Maintain accurate accounting records and financial data.
•Oversee the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
•Prepare relevant budgets and financial forecasts.
•Monitor variances between actual and budgeted performance.
•Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
Internal Controls:
•Enhance and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
•Responsible for day-to-day Treasury Management (including publication of monthly cash flows, monitoring cash flow, working capital, etc).
•Develop and manage relevant internal cost control processes across the company.
•Identify and mitigate financial risks.
Compliance:
•Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
•Develop and implement financial control procedures and systems.
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary procedures to ensure compliance.
Tax
•Oversee tax compliance and reporting.
•Key point of contact and responsible for management of external tax advisors.
•Oversee tax planning and optimization.
Leadership and Supervision:
•Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
•Communicate financial information to management and other stakeholders.
•Work closely with other departments to improve financial processes, internal controls, reporting, and strategic decision making/
Other Duties:
•Oversee the annual financial audit process.
•Implement and maintain accounting systems and software that align with the company’s growth and operational needs.
•May be involved in mergers and acquisitions.
•Develop and implement financial policies and procedures.
•Other duties that may be assigned by the VP of Finance.
Qualifications and Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related;
•Professional Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent);
•In depth knowledge and understanding of ASPE and IFRS Accounting Standards;
•Minimum 8 years of work experience in progressive accounting and finance roles, with at least 3 years in a corporate controllership or finance setting;
•Experience in the construction, energy, utilities, or related industries is an asset;
•Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS office, Excel and teams;
•Experience evaluating and implementing ERP / accounting systems is an asset;
•Experience in high growth, entrepreneurial setting is an asset;
