Job Summary: The Corporate Financial Controller will be a pivotal member of our leadership team, directly accountable for the financial health, integrity, and strategic direction of the company. This role demands a hands-on leader with a strong understanding of the construction industry, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record in financial management, reporting, and compliance. The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, implement robust financial controls, and provide critical insights to support business decisions and drive profitability.
· Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises).
· Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including variance analysis, job costing, and profitability analysis, providing actionable insights to management.
· Prepare comprehensive financial reports for internal stakeholders, including executive management and project managers.
· Manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors.
· Lead the annual budgeting process and develop robust financial forecasts.
· Monitor budget performance, identify deviations, and recommend corrective actions.
· Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts to optimize liquidity.
· Manage all general ledger operations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
· Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal financial controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
· Oversee the efficient processing of financial transactions and ensure data accuracy.
· Ensure compliance with all relevant Canadian tax regulations (corporate income tax, HST, payroll taxes) and other statutory requirements.
· Coordinate with external tax advisors as needed.
· Provide financial guidance and support to project teams and operational departments.
· Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes, offering financial perspectives on business initiatives, investments, and growth opportunities.
· Mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
· Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and automation within the finance department.
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· CPA designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA) is required.
· Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 3-5 years in a Controller or similar leadership role.
· Proven experience within the construction industry is essential.
· Strong knowledge of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises).
· Expertise in job costing, project accounting, and revenue recognition principles specific to construction.
· Proficiency with accounting software, preferably Sage 100 Construction and other software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP systems.
· Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling).
· Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
· High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and integrity.
Reporting Structure: The Corporate Financial Controller will report directly to the President/CEO.
