Under the general direction of the Safety Services Section Supervisor, Safety and Training Support Services Department, this position is responsible to assist with the development and administration of safety and health programs. This position will coordinate efforts as required with other safety advisors within Safety & Training Support Services Department. Assist and provide technical support to the Workplace Safety and Health Committees and liaise with Regulatory Authorities.
Responsibilities:
•Assist Line Management and Workplace Safety and Health Committees in ensuring workers are in compliance with all legislated and Manitoba Hydro Safety and Health requirements including:
- following Life Saving Rules and Worker Protection Code;
- meeting requirements of Workplace Safety and Health Act;
- ensure compliance with environmental requirements;
- perform random tool, equipment, and workplace inspections;
- provide input to changes to Manitoba Hydro Life Saving Rules, Worker Protection Code, and Policies;
- provide input to changes to Safe Work Procedures and Policies;
- maintain current records;
- participate on special committees; and
- Lead serious incident and medium risk incident investigations within the Business Unit in consultation with Workplace Safety and Line Management.
•Participate in high risk incident investigations.
•Provide assistance and technical support to the Workplace Safety and Health Committees in respect to developing safety meeting agendas, topics and scheduling.
•Address items of immediate concern from field staff and Workplace Safety and Health Committees.
•Assist in the delivery of safety training and initiatives.
•Evaluate work procedures with field staff to identify potential hazards.
•Instruct all employees on the requirements for, correct use of, and care of personal protective equipment and fall protection systems.
•Assist Line Management and Workplace Safety and Health Committees in ensuring that all health hazard and emergency plans are in place in the workplace.
•Stop hazardous work until actions have been taken to reduce the hazards.
Qualifications:
•Minimum Grade 12 education plus possession of a Manitoba Hydro Certificate of Qualification as a Power Electrician Journeyperson or Mechanical Technician plus five years related experience including two years of experience related to safety, health, and environment as a member of a workplace safety and health committee or equivalent.

•Minimum Grade 12 education plus an Occupational Health & Safety Certificate with five years related experience including two years of experience related to safety, health, and environment as a member of a workplace safety and health committee or equivalent.
OR
•Minimum Grade 12 education plus an Occupational Health & Safety Diploma with three related experience including two years of experience related to safety, health, and environment as a member of a workplace safety and health committee or equivalent.
•Candidate must possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence and be prepared to travel using all modes of transportation (flying, boating, etc.) throughout Manitoba.
•Certificate in an Occupational Health and Safety Program or enrollment or completion of the CAM or CIM will be considered an asset.
•Leadership experience would be an asset.
•Thorough knowledge of the safety and health environment.
•Thorough knowledge of Manitoba Hydro policies, Safe Work Procedures, Life Saving Rules, Worker Protection Code, and applicable safety legislation.
•Must possess a thorough knowledge of the Safety Management System.
•Demonstrated ability to teach and instruct in a manner that is conducive to learning new concepts.
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior management, union representatives, field staff, consultants, as well as with officials from external organizations and regulatory agencies.
•Mature judgment and capable of taking independent action where required.
•Technical aptitude and the ability to collect and analyze data and prepare clear and concise technical reports.
•Ability to use an analytical approach to problems and be able to challenge the existing order to effect safety improvements.
•Demonstrated ability to use a personal computer with a working knowledge of Corporate software (including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook and EHSM)
•Completion of Incident Investigation, Incident Prevention, Train the Trainer, Fall Arrest Inspection and other related safety/leadership will be considered an asset.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $39.18-$54.24 Hourly, $75,083.06-$103,932.92 Annually.
